I started a new book today which contained a glossary of words used within the book. I was surprised to see the word "burrick" included and translated as "prostitute".
Anyone else come across this or is this purely fictional? A quick search on google turned up blank.

Never heard that before, Dictionary.com hasn't either. Interesting though, what book is it?

If you tell us the book, the we can better tell you whether it's credible.
E.g., if it's Clockwork Orange, I can tell you right now it's made up, ok, maybe Russian ... just as well made up (haha, that's a joke).
If it's a period book (like from the 16th century), then maybe better chances it's an archaic term.
PS, totally coincidentally, I'm studying in the library, there was a book on medieval prostitution on my desk I was flipping through. Actually, let me look in it again. If the word exists, it should be in that book. Just a sec.
Edit: Well, didn't see it here.

Black Ajax by George Macdonald Fraser.
I wonder if this is just one of those coincidences or not?
