As I said in the AV thread, I'd be upset to lose Scotland, partly because it would make the rest of the country even more Tory.

I'm pretty much on the fence with regard to Scottish independence. Not torn between either side, i just don't give a shit.
But I very much doubt Scotland could keep the same standard of living as we have now if we were to gain independence. I've heard various things about the oil in the North Sea not really belonging to Scotland and therefore wouldn't really help an independent Scottish economy. Social issues everywhere. To be honest, I just can't wait to leave this country. Sick of it. I don't understand how folks can have a sense of national pride around here; all over my city I see people who are loud, aggressive, confrontational, often drunk, with more spite than courtesy. bleh, maybe I'm just a snob.
I'll give the SNP one thing though. From what I've read over the past few years, they seem to be one of the only political parties that genuinly seems to do what they say they are going to do! Whether or not I agree with their ideology, I have to respect that.

Scottish independence would also mean English independence. We have been controlled by our Scottish masters for too long. Since the Scottish King James VI become King of England we have been under the control of the Scots!
More recently though, when under Labour, the tuition fees bill only passed due the votes of Scottish MPs while the Scottish MSPs voted for no tuition fees in Scotland itself! Hardly fair.

You could become the 51st state. That way you could be proud, loud, aggressive, and often drunk without the spite, courtesy, or self reproach and obliviously enjoy it. On the downside we are about to tip over from being too top heavy. And you might have to join a gang but that's okay because they are in vogue and it somehow makes you stylin and bad for six guys to beat up one. It's like chavs inventing hiphop and being adulated.
