Hello, folks!
I seriously think about buying Doom 3 in my country in order to play The Dark Mod or even create TDM FMs... I have chosen this website:

As I see, there are two versions of Doom 3. Which one will I need? Seriously, I don't think I will play Doom 3, I'll be buying it only for the Dark Mod.
And something more: I fear that the version I'm going to buy may be pre-patched with the wrong patch.

Hey there Bulgarian_Taffer.
There's only one version of Doom 3, the first one in the list. The next one listed is only an add on/sequel. You only need the original Doom 3 and the latest patch. Doesn't matter if the game you buy doesn't have the correct patch because have links to the correct patch on our wiki. :)

OK, thank you!
Of course, I'll be interested in installing the Dark Radiant, too and try making simple maps for myself... I was not interested in the mod in the beginning, but I changed my opinion

Dark Radiant has undergone some great changes lately, it's looking great. Orbweaver has been updating the renderer so we'll have a much more accurate preview window! :)

I reckon I'll join you in that Bulgarian_Taffer. I did the same thing with Unreal Tournament and Thievery.

Yeah, the price should have gone down considerably by now (last I checked, Doom 3 was US$19.95), so definitely worth it for Dark Mod alone.
You won't need the expansion, I'm assuming, but the funny thing is, I actually would actually recommend that one. I've played my fair share of FPS games, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of them, but I really did like the "Resurrection of Evil" expansion. I thought it was actually a more satisfying game overall than Doom 3, with a much cooler and useful set of weaponry. Plus the ending was way more entertaining.
But, I also haven't bought Unreal Tournament. After I got Unreal as a gift, I never could bring myself to buy any others. Sure, the game was good-looking (and really isn't that bad today, either, if a bit blocky) and had very atmospheric music, but MAN, was it boring. It lured you in like Thief, with the promise of diary entries and so forth, but they never actually drew you in. It never felt like I was involved with the story, just sort of watching crap blow up, and then, BAM, it's over! There was no climactic buildup, just sort of a plateau reached about halfway that sort of sits there. Of course, it may be I just had the difficulty up too high: I had the same sort of feeling playing through Half-Life the first time, which I immediately played on Hard because the headcrabs just seemed too easy at the beginning. Then, by the end, I was just constantly loading and reloading because I always saved with '2' health and no armor. It never felt like I was enjoying the story at all. On the other hand, I always played Thief on hard, and even saving and loading I never felt that way about delving into the story, so maybe it's just the game.

That's just what I wanted to know. Thanks for the thread.

I'll be picking this up when the dark mod is released for sure :thumb:

Just got this a few days ago so I'll be ready. Looks like it will be a great engine for TDM. Decided to play through it but it's a chore. Take two steps, fight some goofy-looking creature jumping out of the shadows, take two steps, etc.

There are two dark mod FM's that you can play St.Lucia and Thieves Den, go and check them out!
