I may be just upgrading, I may just buy a whole new system. Upgrades would be about $1000 US Dollars if I just upgrade my MB,VC,Memory,CPU and use the stuff I already have but 1500 dollars for a whole new system which is what I will do so I can use my present PC for Thief if needed. My main concerns are thease parts.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Processor - 3.0GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe, Dual-Core, Socket 775 CPU
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked / 640MB GDDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card
EVGA nForce 680i SE SLI (TR Version) Motherboard - NVIDIA, Socket 775, ATX, 7.1 Audio, SLI Ready, PCI Express, Dual Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0 & Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID Motherboard.
Windows Vista Home Premium <<< I may stay with XP and get another copy for the new system if I get the 1500 dollar deal and go to vista when they work out the bugs.
If any of you have any of these things let me know your Thief expierience with them. My future PC rides with you guys. Thanks

Yeah... that's really nice and all, but Thief is an older game and I have had problems using higher end equipment with it. What I plan on doing is getting a hold of some old parts and building a low end computer so that I don't have to garbage up my computer with emulators and patches.
I have no personal Vista experience, but two of my friends, one of which is a computer genius, has repeatedly condemned the system and switched back to XP.

I now have two comps, one with XP, other newer comp with Vista. I am keeping both. Vista is ok, I am not thrilled with it, bit of a pain in the ass on the simplest of tasks. Which can drive me insane. I'm getting used to it. Disabling somethings, and learning how to use it, with time.
Consensus is leaning towards having an older comp to run older games, too much of a pain in the ass with these new comps.

Lightningline, You'll have a lot of problems with GF8800 and Thief1/2.
Check this thread:
(

I suggest you to leave your present PC for Thief.

I can only agree with what has already been said. Use two computers: One with old parts for playing Thief and one modern for doing other things.
I have just set up my current computer so that it can play all versions of Thief (including Doom 3 for TDM) and I am not going to upgrade it from here on. The next time I really need an upgrade I'll buy a whole new computer instead and keep the old one only for Thief.
When my old computer finally breaks beyond basic necromancy (which will hopefully not happen in a decade or... five :erm: ) I'm going to call it quits and let Thief rest in well-deserved peace ("Thief is dead, long live Thief (TDM)!").

You'll always come back to Thief. It's an addiction, just like Diablo 2 is for me. I can never put that game away for ever and the same goes for Thief. But of course, you're welcome to wallow in denial until you realize that you've thrown away the only worthwhile relationship in the world for something as meager as real life.

I am gonna keep my old A64 3200+ with GF 6800 GT in tact for older games and our beloved Thief, Who knows what else we wont be able to play on newer tech. that I may get an itch for when I am feeling nestolgic. A couple hundred extra bucks and I can just build a whole other complete system.
Thank America for plastic.

This is precisely why we created a Legacy Gaming Tech Help forum. This kind of thing is only going to get worse, and I'm very glad we caught the wave before it really became a problem.
Hopefully there is enough in the various FAQs to tide you over, and I'm sure enterprising members will always be keen to figure out workarounds... The only really unavoidable obstacle at the moment seems to be driver versions, but as long as you're comfy rolling them back and updating them later, that's okay.

I'm not a Thief-addict, I can stop whenever I want... I could stop right now, but, nah, I don't feel like it.
Fifty years from now: "It may
look like I'm playing Thief, but I'm actually not, I'm just keeping it for a... a friend. Yes, that's it, I'm just holding it until my friend comes back."
