Umm... I have no idea where to go.

I am down in the excavation site. How do I use the fireball spell without blowing myself up? Where exactly do I use it? I also never found the 4 digit vault code. What is it and do I really need it? I already found Cantwell's Diary and the Holy Hammerite artifact.
1) Fireball spell: just stand farther back. You can throw it quite a ways if you aim high and let it arc, like throwing a bowling ball. I think I stood almost with my back against a wall; I kept throwing it, taking damage, then reloading and standing farther away until finally one of the throws took no damage off me.
2) You have the Diary; did you read it? He complains endlessly about not being able to remember the code, then he realizes he has a mnemonic: it's the number of the psalm about the Builder and the yeast. You can probably imagine where you would find a book of psalms about the Builder....
3) Yes, you need it if you want loot. I don't know what the loot requirement is on Normal, so I don't know whether you can finish without the vault loot. Maybe.
Now my questions to everyone:
I found some bottles that I missed, but I'm
still short on loot; I have only 3660, and I need 3800 to finish.
One of the wall tapestries -- the one in the main hall, up the stairs, before you go through the door into the casino/lounge, at the far left of the open-sided corridor -- can't be slashed; I get a dull, sickening thud when I try. Is this tapestry a secret door of some sort? If so, how does it open? Can somebody go into DromEd and find out whether there's anything behind it?
Also, any other deviously hidden loot that hasn't been mentioned in this thread? I'm just 140 short, and I've completed all other tasks! BlackThief mentioned something about
a ring on the ground near the "pool"... do you mean the inside pool, where we find
the safe key? Or do you mean the pond with the reeds, the floaty colory thing, and the stationary fish? And where on the gound exactly? I think I already got it, but I can't be sure until I go to the exact location and check.
Thanks,
Dafydd
the ring is on the ground of the pool. have you found the rosary in the chapel ? you can also find some loot in the storeroom (fine wine) another place where you can find loot is the carpet in the big room on the right (with some sofas and a coffee table) - there is a coin on the floor
Thanks, BlackThief; I was able to finish with all the loot.
Actually, the two parts of the original version that were unghostable for me were:
1) The room with the pacing Officer McGill; his patrol was so erratic that I couldn't get in behind him to loot the room without being spotted; and
2) I found it impossible to pick the lock of the room whence we enter the mines, let alone sneak inside; there was too much light, I found no way to turn it off, and the eyesight of the guard across the hall was too good.
As I said, I had no trouble ghosting the undead area of the Mage's Library.
Nice FM; I haven't played the new version, so I don't know if either of those two areas are any more ghostable now.

What is in the sewer?
I have killed the 2 spiders and the burrick. All exits are blocked with gates and the ladder only leads to a disapearing when frobbed sewer hatch, which I can't climb out of.
I have downloaded the second release of this FM as I thought there might be an error, but nothing has been fixed.

I'm in the chapel and I've got the holy artifact but I've found
a switch behind a tapestry on the left hand wall
I can't see what this does, anyone help?
BlackThief on 17/4/2004 at 19:16
@ Orson the ladder in the sewer is the end of the mission -if you have completed all objectives the game will end as soon as you arrive at the ladder.
@ janeeb
this lever opens another secret near the altar - it's a big hammer statue, which opens a hole with a rosary
