I play because Garrett's voice is so great. And because I enjoy the dark, edgy feel of the game. What does that mean about me? That I like dry sarcastic deep male voices (prrrr) and that I like the dark. :cheeky:
And ever since I read Silverthorn by Raymond Feist in junior high, I've had a soft spot for thieves. Jimmy the Hand was an awesome character and I think of him now as a young Garrett. ;)

So, if I cheekily stole your purse Ardesco, would you still be having a soft spot for cunning thieves like me? :cheeky:

Why are you playing Thief, is it just because you like the game or is there more to it than that.... Does playing Thief actually tell you something about who you are as a person. Is it because you want to be like Garrett, or in fact you are like Garrett, or is it you want just to escape from the real world for a while.
There's no doubt in my mind that I love the Thief games/FMs. I knew the first time I played TDP that here was a game out of the ordinary.
Does playing Thief games tell me something about myself? As T-Smith said;

because in it, you ARE what's in the darkness. You're what people warn their children about, the boogie man so to speak, lurking in the shadows, watching the every move of the citizens of The City.
Guess I kind of like that power; the ability to see and not be seen; the cunning and stealth to slip into a heavily guarded place, use the clues and hints dropped unknowingly by strangers to complete my mission and slip out again with no one the wiser (except when I just
have to blackjack that stupid, whining servant!) I'm not a psychopathic killer, but I've realized that I do have a mean streak. Sort of. ;)
Basically, I love the gameplay and missions in general and it's my way to escape harsh reality sometimes.
