I don't know if I'm the only one who knows this (yeah right!)
But did you know in Thief The Dark Project, you can reach
impossible speeds by having Garrett jump continuously?
It's probably old news, but just in case...
Let's say you get seen, and the guard is chasing
you and you have a long, wide open space to run.
In that case, as you're running, press jump. The very instant
Garrett's feet hit the ground, press jump again and repeat. It takes time to
master, and the timing has to be spot on, but with each jump, his speed
doubles, and I've got him up to nearly 50MPH! He hit a wall and died instantly, which sucked, but I've avoided many a taffer using that technique.:thumb: Warp speed Garrett! Engage!!

Yes it is cool, and yes you are correct - it is years old news. :)
Cheers,

You can also run sideways faster than you can forward, an easy way to get away from fast moving haunts.

:D Yeah, I love it. Too bad they fixed it in Thief 2...Well, not too bad. It's more realistic I guess. I think the running sideways thing might still work in Thief 2 I'm not sure. Hey, has anyone noticed that sometimes jumping onto a rope can repel you off of it, sometimes violently, causing injury? Or the rope seems to make you bob up and down like a jack-in-the-box? I was well surprised.

I've gotten into the habit of running diagonally in Thief 2, however I'm not sure if this actually results in going any faster.

My first attempt at using a rope arrow resulted in flying thirty feet backwards off the edge of a rooftop, actually. I was kind of hesitant to use them for a while after that.

Back in the day, it was known as the Triple Jump. After the third jump though, he doesnt get any faster than that.

ive had that happen to me a lot too. i think it has to do with the postion of the rope in relation to any walls it may be near. if its too close, itll buck you off like a dirty hooker. :laff: i also like going into DromEd and setting the room's gravity% variable to something like 25%, and leaping all the way over a guard's head, and hit ground one block behind him.:cheeky: that, or setting the gravity to something stupid like 500%, and watching Garrett nearly die from 1 foot drops. or setting the gravity to -5000%, jumping, and automatically dying. :laff: altering gravity is fun! :thumb:

Getting injured from being propelled by rope arrows is just plain annoying and wrong. :nono:
JJ_Japan on 28/8/2006 at 01:12
It does suck, especially when you're almost to the end with 2-3 hit points left, and you grab a rope only to be killed by being thrown boots over bonnet into a wall. Splat.:tsktsk:
Has anyone ever noticed that the very instant a guard spots you, he can still be blackjacked? "Hey you!!!" POW!:thumb: I guess there are a few seconds where he's still surprised and is vulnerable.
I don't like the way arrows don't do much damage if the AI is aware of you. An arrow is an arrow. It really sucks to shoot a guard with 7 arrows and have him still chasing you. That's why I beef up the broadheads in my missions to do 30-40 hps of damage. Of course, the number of arrows has to be kept low, or players will go mass murderer on ya.:ebil:
