it's a clicky steampunk thingie. no need to think about it too much. same with SS2's von Braun and Rickenbacker - if you start thinking about everything, nothing really makes sense. especially the kool-aid robot.

"Karras Industries" is going to look a bit odd in Return to the Cathedral. In the modern-day temple, maybe, since Karras is mentioned in passing in Thief Gold, but in a 50+ year old cathedral? Not so much.
(My notes say it has 4 uses in RtC.)
I wonder if some piece of scripture might work there?
Or just something informative, explaining what the gauge means?

I've always liked the step-function nature of the gauges. Especially on mech\dalb3 + s, I think that would look better if the gauge indicator went up in 10 or 20 unit increments and smoothly down. I'm also not certain that the labeling should be readable. Other than the numbers it could have been anything. I don't think it was Karras Industries. Or that it was degrees Celsius. It might have been pressure, maybe millibars. On mech\dal02 + s, the V on each guage indicates that the are all measuring the same thing. Maybe different symbols for each gauge? Greek letters?

Those gauge needles look like small wiper blades going back and forth, wiping rain from the glass. Maybe have one or two remain static, a couple trembling at some point, and another fluctuating a small amount.

Definitely seems like the original animations are a product of the technology level at the time, and the new ones could take some liberties in that department without looking out of place or betraying the originals.

Superb. I especially like the subtle flickering of the light level.
