I completed this mission and I actually liked it, with the exception of the few crashes. It really was a good challenge.
Sadly, I could never figure out how to get passed the guards in the tiled room without alerting them. Anyhow, I still can't find the key to that trapdoor on the cieling, I tried looking under the books but couldn't get it. Anyone else able to get it?
well feeling like a complete idiot.
I've got the key and backtracked to the Byrons apartement where an invisible barrier (and two guards) prevent me from proceeding. I can't find any newly opened door and no lock for my key yet. How do I reach that area behind those two guards at the appartement? And what's about that hammer temple?
btw
this lady reading a book at the opened window opposite my starting point - is there any way to get through that window?
And that guy talking with a guard - I can see a ladder in that house but there's also an invisible barrier
trix, it took me a time to figure this out, too
you have to
go through the shutters
This is a really weird one all right. After retrieving my first arrow from a beam I was able to use it on an archer, which it killed. Then I retrieved 100 arrows from a beam next to a ladder - I kept drawing fire while on the ladder and plucking the arrows, but I cannot use the arrows even though they are in my inventory.
I also can't get the key under the books that is, according to the author, obtainable. Perhaps it only worked on the author's system.
Okay, I got that key.
Just stand directly in front of the center stack of books and lean forward looking down onto the stack and the top book will become frobbable. You'll easily figure out the rest from there.
I was just going through older missions that I never got around to playing and found this one so I thought I'd give it a try. I have the Gaylesaver scripts installed but can't really do anything in the mission. I can't frob anything, open any chests, snatch arrows or purses from archers or anything else for that matter. There was only one scroll that I was able to read but it didn't come up like they normally do. The text was superimposed over my normal view. Can anyone tell me if this is the way this mission is supposed to be or is there something screwed up somewhere? Also, am I not supposed to have anything at all in my inventory when I start? Thanks.

Sounds about right. You have to sneak your way through the mission. Some areas have invisible barriers as well. And at the end the mission crashes if you look the wrong way. So be careful!
This mission was certainly different. There are a couple of threads available do a search.

This mission is pure "sneak past guards and pick pocket them along the way", running from shadow to shadow, nothing more, nothing less.

So far I've been unable to pick up any loot. Things look frobbable but when I try to take them nothing happens just like it would if the character had been alerted to my presence. However, no one is aware that I'm there so I figured that I wasn't meant to be able to grab anything in this mission. I feel so naked without my blackjack. If only I could grab one of those skillets I saw in one of the kitchens...... damn it all to hell.
Thanks for the help guys.

Playing this Contest 5 entry again after years. My thieving skills were not up to the task back then, but this time I succeeded :).
Finished on Expert, in 37 minutes, with 1825 loot found.
Liked the dessert, arabic, setting, the daylight, and getting caught by surprise and make an escape without any equipment.
After seeing all
the equipment in that room, out of reach, I understand the logic of not being able to pick up any arrows.
An entertaining game of passing-by-unnoticed through the streets. Crossing a street when a guard is turning his back, crough through a window.. good fun.
The one shot one kill rule is making this a good challenge.
I was glad that the
"Get all the loot" goal was no longer required in the end. Imagine being forced to search every room, every streetcorner, for a few missing coins.
At several points it's clear the author ran out of time. It looks rushed, and improvement or fixing is in order.
Garrett's and guard voice lines are a mess. They run too fast and end abruptly. At the start, for example, I'd like to understand what Garrett has to say when the city watch knocks at his door :p
There's hardly no way to tell when you enter a shadow area. The game is all bright, and a few shadows would be realistic.
Also, guards are often able to spot you, even when you're hiding in an area that is supposed to be shadow.
The static environment. Chests cannot be opened, most scrolls and books cannot be read, civilians do not respond when you run through their houses. Most of the time it's only opening doors.
And of course the crashes. It happened on three occasions that the game froze, and had to quit. It spoils
Overall, it was fun. But if I ever return to Midday Escape (and try finding all the loot :sly:) the crash bug has to be fixed first, and preferably other points as well that ruin the experience.
BTW, Sxerks, been checking your mission page, and having a few questions regarding these screens:
- the (
http://www.geocities.com/sxerks/fantasy02/pic/T2_Midday_Escape13.jpg) key hidden in the book seems to be missing in the version I played. Does it open the hatch in the same room?
- I didn't came across (
http://www.geocities.com/sxerks/fantasy02/pic/T2_Midday_Escape14.jpg) this room. Where is it?
Are both pics taken from an updated version, or does this mission have more secrets then I know about?
