I played on easy too, and it was quite difficult then. Very enjoyable though.

I thought it was quite well done, though a bit confusing in spots. I liked the many differences between the difficulty settings and some tweaking, especially in the underwater parts, would make it a really nice mission. Could you add in a compass, please? It's been very hard to try to steer people to the underwater openings without one. :)

This would be a cool mission for the author to update - particularly, I loved the differing missions based on difficulty level - not just extra objectives, but different things to do in each setting - sometimes areas being off limits from one difficutly to the next.
The main thing that needs fixing is the door bug on Expert - at some point, every door you enter disappears behind you - so if you missed something, there's no backtracking - it's still possible to finish, but you have to get everything in the right order and be done before you go back to the Library at the end!
Also, perhaps he could do away with the warping doors (a limitation of the size since this was a contest entry) and fill in the areas between them.

Hey, thanks to all for the positive response.
I will begin work on it shortly, hopefully sometime this weekend or next week, but it may take awhile for it to be completed (things are hectic once school starts). Let me know what changes you would like to see implemented in the new version on this thread, and I will make every effort to incorporate them.

very enjoyable mission, I'm struggling to get past it a second time, but one thing you might want to consider (if it hasnt been suggested already) is not letting the alchemy book be lost on the bedroll with your stash or in the book return slot. ive gotten pretty far but i think i need to restart because i "used" the alchemy book in the book return slot.

Very nice contest mission.
Finished on Expert in 55 minutes with 800 short of loot.
Good use of space (much bigger then it seems), some cool scripted events, significant variation on the difficulty settings (good replay value), plenty of original puzzles and side quests, and an expending story about a hammerite fundamentalist.
The teleportating way to another area, rather then opening a door, works fine and seems to be an ideal way to escape from enemies ;).
The lights above the door to guide the player to the prison and back is also a nice find!
Sadly, the level is also quite buggy. I had to replay the mission once because doors to other parts of the map suddenly dissapeard, leaving only a wall behind it. And the second time, I found out that I can't even properly finish the mission, because once I stash the Orion Stone in the library it's mission failure :p. Normal gave me no problems. It's expert difficulty, with more scriptic events, that doesn't works smoothly.
Also, some of the puzzles are too difficult due to a lack of hints. Restoring the underwater statue for example, that results in
the opening of passage leading to another crypt. Too much time is spent this way because it's unclear what to do/where to go next.
But despite this, it's still well worth trying out. The mission has a lot to offer (especially on Expert) and is a joy to explore, with some memorable locations like the crypt tomb and the temple with the riddles. It's challenging, surprising, spooky, and entertaining.
Contest 5 brought the community some great entries, and this is one of them. Great work, Golem :thumb:

Well we're still waiting :D
Did you ever finished the remake ? I'd like to play an updated version, with bug fixes and some other gameplay improvements!
A few questions I hope somebody can answer:
- does the Crowbar have another purpose, besides breaking
the beams before the chapel windows?
- what about that hammer?
- In one of his scrolls, Gothus refers to a gate, probably the sealed gate towards the old quarter. This scroll, and the signs beside the gate, talking about Gemini, Pisces and Orion, suggests that this story isn't finished.
Golem, were there plans to expend on this, in a sequel or perhaps in the remake?
- regarding the secret door in the crypt (see pic), I've read here that it can be opened but I have no idea how. A bug?

I'm playing through in order of difficulty, like the readme suggests, and am stuck on hard.
- I have the Orion Stone (but the objective has not ticked off, oddly)
- The only thing that remains is "Get something else expensive while you are there". I assume this is the thing in high the ceiling, but how do I get up there? I assume it's something related to the "Open your ears" plaque, but I've not figured out what it means.
The Phantom on 25/8/2009 at 13:52
I had trouble figuring that out as well.
The plaque riddle "Open your ears to hear the chime, that echoes in the mountain side" refers to the belltower in the mechanist area.
Bigger hint: If you frob the bell there, and return to the temple, a ladder has appeared (if everything works as it should).
I'm not sure if that's the "something else expensive" you need to collect, though. I skipt Hard difficulty.
Good luck!
Maybe someone can answer the questions in my previous post?
Swiz on 25/8/2009 at 16:53
Thanks, that did it. Unfortunately, neither the get "get the warden's key" or "get something expensive" objectives have checked off, despite the fact I have the key, the gem from above, and the hammer as well.
The Phantom on 25/8/2009 at 18:00
I've checked Nightwalker's walkthrough, and it seems she had the same problem at the time.

... I think this crystal is supposed to complete the objective to “Pick up something expensive while you're there.” but it didn't tick off.
Seems like a bug.
Hope you'll have more luck on Expert.
