I'm afraid I've got what might be the wierdest question asked in this thread yet:
Where is the vault?
I really think I've been everywhere possible, and there's only one door I can't open, on the 3rd floor of the jail, the door to the left of the door you use to exit the jail area.
I have:
Got the warden's key, been in his office and placed the letters in his tray.
Found all three library books.
Got the Temple jewels.
Explored all other areas, and haven't found any other inacessible area.
There are still two places that seem "walled up", like maybe triggering a switch or something will allow access to them, but I have no idea what/where the switch(es) might be. These are:
The wall between the two talisman just outside and to the right of the temple.
What looks like a walled up doorway as you climb the ladder between where the haunt with the Horn of Quintus is and the floor below it.
Hopefully, if I know where the "vault" is, the rest will fall into place........ HOPEFULLY!
Any help is much appreciated. :)

The Vault:
The evidence-room vault is behind that door you identified on the third floor; in the warden's office, there is a nugget and the vault key behind the right-hand cushion of the big couch. I just frobbed around a bit and eventually picked them both up.
The Door With Elemental Wards
...Is just another door into the labyrinth. If you must open it for some reason, shoot the appropriate arrow into each ward (there are fire arrows in one of the lockers in the warden's office). But you've probably already been down there. Unless that opens something else up, too? I opened it, saw I'd already been in there, and just reloaded from beforehand -- maybe I missed something.
The Door Between the Floors
This will open for you when a particular event happens, after you get into the evidence-room vault and fulfill a couple of objectives.
[The rest of youse]
Can anybody answer the question in my earlier post? Is there another vault (and if so, where is it?), or is something supposed to appear in the evidence-room vault later?
Oh, another question: I returned all three library books to the book return; the Gate of Saints has not opened. Is it supposed to, or do I need to do more things? By the way, I've gotten no notification of any "miracles" occurring... anybody know anything about those? They're mentioned in the readme file: "There are five possible 'miracles' that can be completed. See if you can find them."

Some miracles I think I've found:
The three library books.
Saving the lady from suicide - but I don't know what to do with the knife. I tried throwing it into the cauldron and it went poof, but since there's no indication you've performed a miracle I don't know if that was the right thing to do or not.
Placing the letters.
Giving a rosary and holy symbol to the guy who wants to be a hammerite. Except that I haven't found a holy symbol. Perhaps the rosary is enough; without feedback it's hard to tell.
epithumia,
What would be *THE* holy symbol for a Hammerite? :cheeky:
But I'm more interested in the vault question... help!
Thanks,

[Folks]
I still haven't solved the vault problem, but I have a new question.
I used the suicide knife on the cauldron, and evidently that was my third "miracle," because I got a new, checked off objective. When I returned to the temple, the Saint's Gate was active.
Passing through -- yes, I saved from beforehand, just in case I jumped the gun -- I found myself in a high, vaulted, stone chamber. There is a frobbable hammer that causes the following words to appear: "Follow the Builder and ALL HIS WORKS" (caps in original).
Looking up, I can see a Hammerite book floating inaccessibly up by the ceiling. Next to it is a hammer; another hammer floats a little further away. There are also two statues far up there. The roof is not uniform; there are parts that stick down that look like maybe I could get inside them... IF I could get up there.
Again, I'm missing something. Anybody know anything about this?
Edit: All right, I figured it out. I'm a saint. I got, oh, let's see, 600,000 gold, 200,000 gems, and 200,000 goods for a total payout of 1,000,000 loot. Cute.
I realized that there had to be a hidden ladder somewhere; I eventually tried standing between the two floor hammers and jumping up....

I went through the saint gate and found the ladder but I still can't reach the book from it? Jumping off the ladder doesn't get me any closer.

Dafydd,
Thanks very much for your tips! I've now been to the vault, and done pretty much everything you've mentioned here (I'm a saint, Woo-hoo!....Bwahaha, not really!). But, did you ever figure out the "get the most expensive thing in the vault" objective? That's where I am now, except for the don't kill and get to Simon's house (not sure where that is either) objectives. I've looked in the original vault, and the new area between floors which I guess could be considered a vault...??? No luck.
Is this a bug, or has anyone gotten this mission to end properly?
Hints are most welcome!
Auriga2us,
Climb all the way to the top of the ladder, then turn around and jump to the landing. You'll then have to walk across a couple "bridges of faith".....save before you step.
Evidently, Raetsel did. He said it didn't check off on the objectives list, but he did find a vault with stuff in it.
I don't know if it's the same vault as where we found the Onion gem or a different one. I just PMed him to ask; we'll see what he says!

i pm'ed you back, dafydd
it's not the same vault as where you got the stone - a secret door opens up next to the ladder that leads down from where the haunt with the horn of quintus was - the objective, like i said, didn't tick off for me, but it may be because i grabbed water arrows out of that vault first - perhaps if you take a large gem as the first thing, the objective will work - or maybe it's just one of the intermittent bugs that wouldn't happen again if i played through another time - no idea
@bassmanret:
simon's house is the metal door by the prison - you know that place where you can climb down a chimney? right across from the unopenable door to that
