[Raetsel]
If that turns out to be the fabled vault, that's really annoying; that would make the second major objective that wouldn't check off for me:
After you find Gothus's dead body, already killed by Hammerites, I would assume the objective to kill him is supposed to become inoperative; in my case, it just stayed open and unchecked.
Then of course, there is nothing in the vault objective that says "...and make it the very first thing you steal in there, including even water arrows!" So that objective didn't check off for me, either.
So therefore, neither did the no-kill objective nor the objective to get back to Simon's house after everything else has been accomplished.
So that means I actually did everything, but I had four unchecked-off objectives at the end of the game.

i looked in dromed just now to check...
the serpentile torc in that place is supposed to be the target of an objective
the readme for this mission did say some objectives may not work.
i still had a lot of fun playing it, regardless :)
as for gothus:
i picked up his body & then that one checked off for me
Thanks raestel and Dafydd, I guess I'm done with this one, too then. I didn't get the "Mission Complete" screen because of the second vault objective not checking off.
I think this mission just needs a little fixing up to be a very fun mission. It seemed to me that the author intended to do much more, but didn't get to finish. For example, I didn't find any use for the crowbar, the hammer, or the rosary beads (although I think this was supposed to be part of a miracle). The "miracles" could be made into individual objectives, or at least make a definitive sound play when they're accomplished. Also, the returning of the 3 books to the library could/should be made into an objective. It's just a shame that we didn't get to play it in the "fixed" version, so now the element of discovery and surprise is gone. (sigh) I DO hope the author decides to work on it some more and have it thoroughly beta-tested, then rereleased. I would like to play it again then! :) :)

I'm stuck at the temple area. I"ve gone upstars and downstairs and cleaned them out. Is there anything special about the structure at the end of the hall downstairs? Also, how do you open the door across the way from the temple? It's frobbable, but I can't do anything with it. Please help.
bassmanret on 17/3/2004 at 15:23
Skulduggerist,
By the "structure at the end of the hall downstairs", if you mean the pedestal with a skull on the floor next to it,
then, take the gem and watch what happens to the shelf the gem was sitting on....
After that, if you need another hint:
Wall got you blocked in? Do you see something that could replace the spot where the gem was?
If that's not the structure you meant, let me know.
About "the door across the way from the temple", do you mean the door that you have to jump from ledge to ledge to get to? If so, that door should open without any object or key. I just replayed from the start up to that point, and it opened for me with a simple frob. If that's not the door you meant, let me know.
Hope that helps! :)

Bassmanret,
We're talking about the same things, but
there's no gem on a shelf there.
As for the door, I've frobbed it countless times and nothing happens. I'm playing on Hard difficulty if that makes a difference.
bassmanret on 17/3/2004 at 17:59
Skulduggerist,
I just played up to that point on Hard, and there are surprisingly many differences, including the fact that that gem only shows up on Expert. So, I guess you just disregard that structure/pedestal thing when playing on Hard. Also, I found the upper door to be locked on Hard, when on Expert it is not. I'll play it again on Hard, but I don't have time right now. Hopefully, someone who's played it on Hard will be able to help you before then. Sorry. :(
On the other hand, you could try playing it on Expert, since most of the hints in this thread are based on that difficulty.....just a thought.
Good Luck! :)

Looks like I'll need to restart on expert. Oh well. Thanks for all the help, Bassmanret.

Howdy!
Since I'm in a much better frame of mind than when I posted my frustation driven rant up thread, I'd like to report the bugs I encountered for this mission's author, as it seems that I'm the only one got them. I'm covering them in spoiler text, just in case. Note that I experienced these bugs playing on Expert.
(1) I blackjacked the evil priest who's name escapes me (let's call him G). I picked him up, noted the "very dead" comment next to his name, then put him down. Continued on my merry way. Much later, when I hid the Orion stone in the library, three things happened: the hide the Orion stone objective ticked off, I received a new objective to kill G which had a circle with a line through it, and the no-kill objective was checked, ending the game with a skull and crossbones.
(2) Early on, right after leaving the prison, I went through the labyrinth at the Temple. At the first red barrier, as I approached I could see gold nuggets through the "wall". I leaned forward and was able to put them in my inventory with my loot. I was never able to trigger any sort of result from navigating the labyrinth - all that would happen is that I'd wind up where the slit winders are, on the other side of the one-way red wall. I was never able to take the crystal on the pedastal that was guarded by the sliding wall trap. I can only surmise that this was because I took those gold nuggets from the wrong directions? Also, the door over in the other building that was between floors never opened and I'm told that navigating the labyrinth was supposed to trigger that door.
(3) After I received the objective to kill G (I had to start over, see number (1) above), I worked my way back up to where he'd been walking and found that the Hammer's had already taken care of things. I picked him up, put him down - the objective to kill him never ticked off and I never received the new objective to get the most expensive item from the vault, despite using the ladder (which moved after ringing the bell) to retrieve both loot items on the top floor.
I enjoyed what I could of the mission and I sincerely hope that after the contest, a less buggy version is released. These were blockers, critical bugs that for me, killed my enjoyment of an otherwise very engaging and story-driven mission. I had to stop playing after I surmised that frobbing the nuggets in the labyrinth had caused the rest of the bugs - I just couldn't bring myself to start over yet again :p
Cheers,
-M

I just started this FM, and it is a little cramped for my tastes. I'm still trying to figure out the warming house (outside of gameplay).
I gave the alchemy book to the library, but now I see that I shouldn't, and I have to start over again. I'll have to do that when it is dark because I can't find my way through the water without really straining my eyes.
I do like the hauntland though. :D
