How to turn on the machine.
First turn off all emergency shutdown switches.
Hint
The machine can only be turned on in a certain order.
If a switch or a valve stays on after you turned it on that’s good.
Solution
Starting with the furnace on the left.
1. Turn on the pilot light.
2. Turn the valve on the pipe leading into the furnace.
3. Turn on the Bellows.
4. Turn on the Furnace Jets.
Repeat steps 1-4 for the furnace on the right.
Now you can turn on the ore crusher.
THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO SAVE YOUR GAME. THINGS CAN GET HAIRY.
After turning on crusher you can now turn on the level processing.
Near the beginning,
I found the armory key on a guard's belt but he became alerted, so I had to reload when I couldn't escape him. Since then, I can find no way to get that key from the guard without alerting him. Opening the door alerts them, and turning out the light above ground makes the guard up there just go and turn it all back on again. I got into the early part of the mine, but couldn't get anywhere. I'm stuck, and frustrated, so I gave up.
I used the same trick I discovered in COSAS's first FM:
Take the crates and place them in the doorway, that way the guard won't be able to get to them light switches.
This IS a really fun level. I did find one major "bug" or fault, if you will:
If you close the door to the room where the processed ore deposits the treasure (the one you need a combination to enter in the first place) while you are inside the room, you're stuck! There is no way to get out, at least that I've found. There should be a "door open" switch from the inside. Had to reload my last save.
Yeah, those escape switches are pretty important.
I was playing some other FM, where you had to flip a gaslight to get access to a secret ladder shaft that lead to a boarded-off room. I made my save in that room, only to go face first down the ladder shaft. When I reloaded, I heard this faint rumbling as of a secret door sliding closed... and lo and behold, suddenly I was stuck.

Yeh!!! I got the m/c working (I was using the wrong valve Doh!). This FM is now my official contest 5 favourite. It is so much fun. That m/c is just great.
I haven't had so much fun for ages blowing up haunts and undead with explosives, fire arrows and flash bombs. Processing ore has never been this much fun ... and how apt the title is!!!!
Whoever did this one deserves a medal.

I got the machine working, went up the elevator but that is as far as I got........what am I missing? Help please.
also where is all the loot? can you open the door upstairs where you started?
Phillys on 6/4/2004 at 13:25
You need to work the mines!
ie. process some ore by throwing rocks in the m/c. It's quicker to use the belts!
The door at the beginning (I believe) is inaccessible.
Enjoy throwing dynamite at zombies and remember that two flashbombs kill a haunt!
I crushed enough rocks to get to 2000 and finished the level but no haunts showed iup for me thank god.
