I finally decided to tackle Arkyhn's tomb in the first mission of Calendra's Legacy,
and I've gotten to the part with Arkyhn's skull and all the loot on the table at last. . but I can't seem to get any of it without that damn skull rising up and shooting fire at me. What the hell do I do?? . .and that damn walkthrough I've been following is no help at all! :(
EDIT: . .nevermind, I finally remembered that I had holy water. . .

Hey, I am still at "A meeting with Basso" and I can't grab that blue woman's purse which is coming out of the old widdow no matter what I do. I even waited for her behind some barrels to grab it, but she still discovered me. Also the
stationary guard after the two openable windows seems to hear everything even if i go crouching + sneak. I had to move forward in intervalls with pauses in between to grab that key.
In both cases, is there a special trick, or is my difficulty somehow messed up? I experienced guards hearing way too much also in "dancing with the dead", but reinstalling Thief 2 didn't help shit. Normally, sneaking + crouching should be unhearable shouldn't it?
EDIT: Never mind. I did another fresh install and now it works. Phew it was really furstrating to play at such a high difficulty...

Normally I wouldn't even bother posting my opinion of a FM, but this one takes the cake.
Just wasted a few hours playing this FM. It's got to be one of the worst FMs I've ever seen. I've never had to load my game so much before from all the stupid things ending the mission.
A FM really shouldn't break the mechanics of the game, like pickpocketing, which is now impossible to do.
Ending the game by getting seen by half the NPCs is also total garbage. That's half the fun of a Thief game, getting spotted and chased by the town guard and others.
Drawing an arrow within sight of anyone also ends the game. This is just ridiculous.
And what's with the lunatic wearing a barrel chasing me all over the place for no reason at all? He can attack me in plain sight of the guards and they do nothing, but any action I take short of running away ends the game. Not to mention this weirdo can see Garrett in complete darkness from some distance away. Why aren't the guards chasing him? He is obviously a suspicious character. This is BS.
So I quit playing and deleted the FM. I'd rather play the original missions for the hundreth time, which have become incredibly boring.
I realize it takes months of constant work to build a FM, even a small one, and I'm not bashing the people who made CL or their skills at all. Obviously their talent and creativity far exceeds most people's including my own.
However, to try to reinvent how the game works is just plain wrong. There's other ways to increase difficulty without reinventing the game's rules. Making a game so damned difficult that even the most basic actions of a Thief game cause it to end is just plain wrong as well.
I have never been so frustrated with a damn game in my life. Thanks for the effort, but no thanks.

It's not broken. Think of it this way:
You're told not to alert anyone. And it gives you a good reason (your job doesn't start till later so you don't want the guards to have time to organise themselves and get looking for a thief).
However you still look quite suspicious. If a passer by sees you, for a minute or two they will then be mindful of a suspicious character nearby. They'll be thinking of that purse or key they have, so they'll feel it if you try to take it, which alerts them. So to steal from people, only approach from behind and make sure that either there has been a short time since they last saw you, or they've never seen you at all.
It's similar for arrows. Seeing you with a bow and arrow is one thing (they'll still ignore you if only to avoid becoming a target), but it should be no surprise that they become alerted if you look like you're preparing to fire.

The man in the barrel is odd, and silly, but it's hardly a mission breaker. He wouldn't be chasing you unless he saw you being naughty (e.g. aiming an arrow).
The first part of the second mission involves navigation (i.e. using the map), with a little bit of ghosting (like in Framed on Expert, but
much shorter). After that if you want to be chased through streets, then you can be chased through streets. And they're very nice streets.

I remember really being frustrated with the pick pocketing bit when I first played too.
Then I got past that and loved every second of it :thumb:

When I first saw this Barrell guy, I cracked up so hard, I nearly knocked over
my computer when my 3 legged roller chair gave way.:eww: But I thought
this was one of the best compiled missions and certainly one of a kind. Lets
have some more wonderful FM's like this one!:thumb:

It does indeed. It has, at various points, been considered the height of the FM-maker's art; it is one of very few missions to rate an 11/10, and it's damned entertaining.

Do it from the shadows, without the person seeing you, and it's quite possible. As has already been said, you're supposed to be on the lam. You're not supposed to be caught doing anything bad - so while you may be able to walk around, you have to be sneaky about your misdeeds.

... umm, unless you're skilled at it. You're supposed to be sneaky, remember? Being chased isn't sneaky, OR Thief-like.

You're not really supposed to do that, either! Do you often carry around a loaded bow? Consider, in the first mission, Our Man Garrett is supposed to be undercover.

He's outside the quarantined section, and there's something of a party going on. He's being a drunken jerk.

Your loss. Sorry you couldn't appreciate what is, to my mind, one of the finest FM's written. It's consistently in the top ten for most, in any case.

I should certainly hope not. This mission is one of the reasons Purah got a job in the industry. Bumped him from the minors to the Big Show.

Well, that's your opinion. Goes counter to just about EVERYONE else, but hey. Shine on, you crazy diamond.

And again, your loss. I'd recommend trying it again, but sticking to the in-game directives. It's a blast trying to move through the mission without getting caught - hell, even the watch station is a hoot - watch out for lightning!

It's pretty cool someone got an industry job out of this FM, I didn't know such a thing was even possible.
Barrel man couldn't possibly have seen me as I was in a dark passage and the light gem was completely black, yet he saw me anyway and gave chase. I was doing nothing but standing in front of a locked door. I did have a lockpick equipped, but I wasn't using it when he saw me. Not even the guard standing next to Barrel Man saw me, so it's pretty odd this weirdo did.
As for ghosting missions, I'm not a ghosting type of player. I've never liked it as it takes the fun out of the game. I like to use all the fun toys Garrett has at his disposal.
I enjoy checking doors, blackjacking people, hiding bodies, picking pockets, and exploring to see where I can and can't go, that's the whole point of the Thief series, besides the great stories.
With this FM, these things are impossible to do, which makes the whole game pointless to me. Without being able to do these things, it's no longer a Thief game, it's just wandering around the streets doing nothing.
Maybe one day I'll try this FM again, but it won't be anytime soon.
