I did the same too, and no it wasn't easy in either case. Had to kill Arkyn though, because no matter what I tried I couldn't safely loot his tomb otherwise. Once I did that I figured I may as well try the ladder anyway.
Good luck with Midnight in Murkbell trashfolder. You are going to need it.

The "other way out" also requires some very difficult boulder stacking and climbing -- it took me almost an hour to get up high enough to reach the ladder, which made killing Arkyn look easy by comparison.
Can be done with one single boulder if you place it right. It's the same trick as with crating: DROP the boulder with 'r' instead of THROWING it, and when you do it, look horizontally straight ahead. This way the boulder will fall in a position that makes it easier to jump on it.

That's ok Nightwalker. I made it through, but it was a rough ride. The #1 objective keep checking off that I gave myself away as a thief. The skull did not destroy me, the objective checked off with the skull and crossbones, but I got by with quickness of weapon.
I'm stuck again, when I returned to the rented room, the people inside attacked me, as a theif. I don't know why. I did not walk in with any weapons drawn. I just walked in. This mission hates me. :(
I am having the same problem but in the Museum even after showing the letter to guard who let me in i just get attacked as soon as i go in there even if i am in the shadows and the bar at the bottom is black the only way i could do it was to release a zombie with the red thing. It is really a waste of time because half of the objectives do not tick off. I think the problem is that i have the Sold Out Version only the blade and the white diamond tick off. What can i do please to fix this:joke:

I think your T2-installation got messed up. A re-installation will do the trick. And don't use Garrettloader for T2-FMs. This is a
b-i-g mistake.

Reading this thread reminded me: Calendra's Legacy is now a nine years old mission. Wow. Time flies. :p

I did a reinstall of thief 2 but still no good. I did a control+alt+shift+end level skip to act 2 i played until the first objective but it still did not tick off. I also noticed i have 2 of the the things you drop down the chute in the preist room. I also tried it in darkloader instead of garrettloader but make no difference. I must be the only person with the sold out pre patched version of the game.
Should I install version 1.07 which i also have and then patch it manually? Would that make any difference. I would really like to finish this game?
Thanks:(

Hello all, I would also like to congratulate Purah et al for putting together Calendra's Legacy. I have a question though.
In mission 1 did anyone have any luck picking the pocket of the archer near Basso's gate? I gave up after too many lightning strikes gave me away. I also tried to douse the torches nearby but even with a completely dark light gem (and from around a corner) putting out a torch caused the mission to abort.

The purse CAN be picked from the archer, but it takes waaaay too long and it's not worth it. You have to sit behind her and wait for her to go off alert status, then pick it, but it takes forever.

to CapSyn,
DUDE! don't go telling others what Thief is and what Thief isn't!
We all have different styles of playing!
To some Thief IS pure ghosting! To some it's being a BJ Mainiac!
To some it's being Robin freakin Hood!
To some it's being a one man slaughterhouse!(gladiator da theef!)
and to some, like me, it's a combination of all of those!
I LIKE using his tools too! as i have said, toys are meant to be played with!
BUT, there IS a tension filled pleasure in successfully ghosting thru a real sob area! (tho i'd prefer it to be MY choice, not forced on me!)
So lighten up ok?
(and yes, i did have a hellish time ghosting in the fort! what with all those sobs u CAN'T ko - stoopid damn helmetz! and the strict as an uptight Catholic school marm code on the AI alert status!)
Cool down ..lol
You both have a point. The issue with this FM is not so much about forced ghosting, it has much more to do with the silly "alert" status when you should be able to BJ people. Waiting half a hour to "cool the alert-status" of some AI's ain't my cup of tea, that just is a frustating side-effect of the choices the fm-makers made and/or a limitation in the game-mechanics.
To me, Thief is ALL about, hiding, sneaking, BJ-ing etc.etc. people, whatever needed to achieve your goal(s). By "forcing" people to do one or the other is one thing, doing so the whole mission long can and will be a negative to lots of people. It become extreme. And as always, when things get extreme, you have people in both camps; pro and cons.
One thing i don't like about this mission is you have to study the map(s) first, to get any idea where and how to walk.... that is frustating. Why not putting arrows on the floor or other means of "pathfinding" ?
That is way more fun and easier for people to accomplish their mission. The way it is now, it feels more like trial and error and that IS a shame. Garret is a master-thief, not a trial and error type. Catch my drift?
ps: the fact that you never can see realtime where you are at any point adds up to the difficulty to find your way around. That is just a handicap of the game engine whe have to live with. But there are other options to guide people into a direction, signs to most obvious one. A path of apples on the ground would work too, for example. Whatever you can think of. Any of those, i think are more fun then studying the map and the surroundings all the time.
Despite all that, i do enjoy this mission. Finished it too, aldo rapidly with lesser loot found. Now i see you can bypass the "bring the relic to priest objective", aldo i still have to find out how. The bells go and the game is over....sofar...lol.

I can't find him anywhere. Where in the heck is he? I've been up and down Murkbell street or whatever you call it and can't find any gate there. I love this mission, but I'm running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. LOL
