Welcome to the forum! :)
I'm not sure if I understand your problem correctly, but if it is that the objectives are not checking off, even though you have completed them, then it is possible that you are using an unpatched version of Thief 2. That has been shown to cause this problem. You need to either have version 1.18 or patch your T2 game up to that version. You can find the patch (
http://thief.math.uh.edu/patches/) here .

Hey, trudnicki, and welcome!
You may wish to wait for someone who is sure but I seem to recall these sorts of problems coming up with players who hadn't yet patched their Thief II to version 1.18. You can download it here: (
http://thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=265) .
Good luck.

Re: technical problems. Could be the patch will fix it but I'm sure another more computer literate taffer can give you a better, more complete answer.
Re: the sword.
Look for a switch hidden in shadow. I missed it the first time through myself.
Don't continue with the mission if those objectives didn't tick off. You will not be able to get it to finish. In most cases, it is caused by playing with an upatched version of T2. When you patch it, though, you will have to restart Mission 2 from the beginning.

I've been reading some of the past posts on Calendras Legacy and it sounds like I'm totally screwed. Maybe this is why I'm hating this mission so much. From what I read, the program isn't running correctly at all. But someone will have to tell me. I'm in part 2 of the mission.
I met with the woman in the Black Die bar and she sent me to the cathedral. I barely made it there in time. I couldn't really do much along the way, because almost anything I did set off the, mission over, feature, very much like in part 1. I got to the Cathedral, and with great difficulty made it into the cardinal's room in time and dropped off the Cylix of Jortul. I did pick up the balcony key, but I never had time to look for anything to frob that opens a secret door. I made it out of the cathedral and started back to the hotel. I kept getting caught. I don't see how to do this without the BJ. Nevertheless, I did make it, although I needed the speed potion I had at the end of the trip. When I got back into my room there was a magic girl there, (Mercedes?) who had to use her magic to kill 3 guards that followed me back into the room. Without her there to kill them, they would have killed me. I found a few more things, like some Fire arrows, an invisibility potion, and a BJ. No sword, and no broadhead arrows. Also no holy water, was there supposed to be any? There was no conversation, I even tried frobbing Mercedes, and she didn't give me any keys. I simply received the new objective of being sick of this shit (which in reality I am) and I headed back to the cathedral.
To my great horror and disappointment, I now found that all the cops are looking for Garrett, all the citizens are afraid of him, and the streets are crawling with every kind of undead character that ever existed in Thief; and they're all after me. Actually the undead are after all the living, and it was only by hiding out long enough to let them kill most of the cops, that I made head way back to the cathedral.
After a long time of playing hide and seek with all the undead, I finally made it back to the cathedral. And of course, the cathedral is also swarming with undead. I used up almost all my fire arrows and a mine killing them. They simply were all over me, not allowing me to explore. I've killed them, found the basement room where I assume the Cylix is that I have to get back, but I can't open the door, and I have no idea where the key is? Do I really need to get in there, and is the Cylix in there? From what I was reading I don't think so. If it's not in there, then where is it, I haven't a clue?
I am totally lost, stuck, and rather disgusted at this point. Reading that the program may not be running right, has made me feel like just quitting and looking for a different FM to play. All this time I've been trying to figure out why this mission is supposed to be so good, and now I think the reason I haven't enjoyed it may be because it's screwing up? So what do you all think, is it me that's not operating right, or is it the program? I admit I don't like undead missions that much, but I do play them and succeed so long as I'm given a way to do so. I had a hard time with the Inverted Manse because of this, but I did have everything I needed to win. I just had to figure out how best to use the stuff. In this mission I feel like I don't have what I need to win, and I mean that both in terms of supplies, and information.
I'm sorry this is so long. I'm super frustrated. Someone please Help!!
Oh yes, I am using the patched version of Thief 2 - Final 1.18. I patched T2 as soon as I got it.

Getting into the Cathedral at the beginning can be tough. You didn't mention what difficulty setting you are playing on, either, which makes a difference in quite a few ways, as well. You can get into the Cathedral grounds in under 2 minutes on the easiest setting. It takes a bit longer on the other two, but you still should have lots of time.
I think, if you don't really LOVE undead missions, you're much better off, after you dump the Cylix at the Cathedral, to explore the town carefully before you go to the rented room. It's much easier that way and you can find quite a bit of equipment that helps in the later stages of the mission.
Since you are already in the Cathedral, though, you can find a key on the floor just under the desk in the room with the stairs down to the basement. It opens the basement door, which is not exactly where you find the Cylix, but will get you to the place where you find it.
It does sound like something wasn't running properly, though, because Mercedes (the girl in your rented room) should have made a speech and given you the cemetary keys. It doesn't sound like any of that happened.
This mission is definitely a very difficult one, even on the easiest setting and because of that, isn't for everyone. It's a beautiful mission to explore, though and not nearly as confusing after you've played through it once. Maybe you should restart and take your time exploring to see if that helps.

Nightwalker,
Thank you for the speedy reply. I'm playing on the easiest level, and I'm still having a very hard time of it. I didn't seem to have very much time to make it to the cathedral, and the reason I didn't explore before going back to the hotel room was because I wanted the BJ. I knew it was there because the first time I left the bar I went to the hotel first, but I never made it to the cathedral, so I started over again and went straight to the cathedral. The reason I wanted the BJ so badly is because I'm having a very hard time sneaking around in this mission, that's another reason I'm wondering if it's playing right.
There was definitely no conversation with Mercedes, nor did she give me any keys. I just went back to my saves to see if I could make her do it, but no good. I even tried clubbing her to jog the program, but all that did was make her disappear when I turned my back. I read that this was a bug, but by using the 1.18 version of T2 it's not supposed to happen, I think? I'm wondering if the fact that 3 guards followed me back into the room, that Mercedes has to kill, is screwing up the conversation? I'm also wondering if it's my system. I only have a 16MB video card (nVida Vanta) and only 128 MB of regular RAM. Twice that is the minimum system requirements. Usually games run fairly well on this card. Hallucinations and Insurrection also recommended what Calendras Legacy is asking for, but I played and finished those 2 missions; albeit a little choppy. Do you think that my under recommended system specs can be why the conversation and keys aren't happening with Mercedes? From what I read in past posts, it will be impossible to finish the mission without these things, so I either start over in the hopes she does them, or I give it up? Unless, I can get back to the room without being followed and that changes things, what do you think of that? What do you think I should do, and is it really supposed to be this hard to sneak around?
(and PS, not only do I not love undead missions, I tend to hate them. That's the main reason I prefer T2 over T1) (thanks again)

It's hard to judge whether the guards are behaving normally or not unless you can see what's happening, which I obviously cannot. As I said, though, this is a very difficult mission and it could just be that you're being a little too impatient and rushing things. That being said, there WERE people who seemed to run into a lot of little glitches with guards not behaving the way they should and attacking when they shouldn't, but that seemed to be mostly in the first mission, except for the Musuem in the second mission, which also caused some people problems. Unfortunately, the more complicated a mission is, the more likely that little things like this will crop up.
On the easiest setting, to get to the Cathedral, you just jump into the water off the Inn balcony, swim up a channel and through a hole in a pinkish tower, climb out, go through a door and you're in the Cathedral grounds. It can be done easily in under 2 minutes, which gives you 14 or 15 minutes to explore the Cathedral and drop of the Cylix. You can take the same route on Hard, but you have to open some gates and on the expert level, you have to go through the streets most of the way.
You CAN actually get your BJ on easiest setting before you go to the Cathedral, but you have to know the way pretty well to have time to get to the rented room, then get back to the Cathedral to drop of the Cylix before the time limit runs out. I don't really recommend this, anyway, because knocking out a lot of guards just makes it harder after the undead appear. You end up with even more of them, because you don't have guards to fight with them. If you decide to try this, don't use the BJ much, just on really difficult guards.
I don't know if Mercedes not having the conversation or giving you the keys would necessarily mean the mission wouldn't finish properly. Did the objective to drop off the Cylix tick off when it should have? Did you get a new objective at that point? It's possible that it may still work and you can get to the Cylix without the keys that Mercedes gave you if you go through the Cathedral and find the key that I told you about in my other post. Whether the objectives will tick off properly at this point, I can't tell you. The only way to know would be to try it, and since you're already at the Cathedral, why not just find the key and try to finish the mission? Let me know if it finishes or not.
I doubt if your computer specs have anything to do with Mercedes' behaviour. As long as the mission runs and isn't too choppy, I don't think it should make any difference.
I think it's too bad that you triggered the undead so quickly, because it's much easier if you've found all the equipment available around town and made yourself familiar with the layout before they show up. There is also a side quest in which you can assemble an amulet that is very useful against the undead.
One other suggestion: If you decide to restart, play it on the Hard setting, rather than Easy. It's really not any more difficult, IMHO, and on Hard you can find a special sword that isn't available on the easiest setting. It's also very useful against the undead. There's a terrific walkthrough available (
http://members.rogers.com/ramwise/Thief/CalendrasLegacy2.html) here that was written by Old Man. Even though it's written for ghosting the mission on Expert, it will still give you some idea of where to look for extra equipment, though you can find more on Easy and Hard, than on Expert.
If I can help you at all with anything else, please just let me know. :)
