How can I
pickpocket the Watercrest Museum's lantern guard
in Mission II? He notices me trying to
snatch his key
even if I use an invisibility potion to hide myself. And even the
Archer my the museum vault doesn't let anyone to grab her(?) arrows
. I'm playing in Garrett difficulty.

Getting that key can be very, very tricky. The only way that I found to get it was to
lay some moss between the bottom of the stairs (on the lowest level, where you enter the museum) and the display room that the guards walk into, then walk back far enough towards the front doors that the guard can't see you when he walks down the stairs. Hide there, then when he hits the bottom of the steps, you should have enough time to catch up with him and snatch the key before he actually gets into the display room. I usually get it just as he walks through the archway.
If you're having a lot of trouble with the guards, another good approach is just to come back later, after you've been to your rented room. It's still not easy, but you have different enemies to deal with. :)

Nightwalker,
Thank you for your reply!
In my opinion, the guards have been set to be a bit too aware of pickpockets, any method I try seems to alert them. It is possible that the less living enemies will be easier to deal with...

Where (a detailed description, please!)
is the button to open the gate to Vilhrath's Gardens in the southern end of the map in mission II? The walkthrough says it is on the far, inside wall, but regardless how hard I try to shoot anything I believe could be a button, I can't get the gate to open.
lauriah on 13/11/2002 at 21:44
Just after I posted the question I got the gate open. The button is visible, the metallic square on the back wall inside the garden, but the arrow must be shooted lower than one might think.
I replayed this mission yesterday (on Garrett difficulty) and added the following objectives for myself:
* Count and identify all the AIs
* Vanquish all undead
I wanted to trigger the undead as soon as possible but not miss anything (other than pockets picked) so I started with the following:
- Plunder Gleaming Facet (no need for sneaking, hehe)
- Deliver the Cylix
- Visit the Psychic´s
- Get the Kharras Drahg
- Go to the apartment and meet Mercedes
After that, I went hunting. All the AIs got identified and their bodies (those that leave one) got dumped, either into the canals or into corners of buildings and streets, so that I would know if I had counted them or not.
Working my way through the city, I found:
2 Police Swordswomen
24 Police Swordsmen
8 Female Police Archers
7 Male Police Archers
3 Peabody Smelting Factory Guards
1 Watercrest Museum Front Guard
1 Guard (guest at the Black Die)
1 Sword-wielding Fishmonger
11 Cathedral Guards (with hammer)
1 Cathedral Front Guard (wizard)
4 Falstaff Wizards
5 Female Civilians (including 2 waitresses)
11 Male Civilians (including Dr. Provost and Bob Grenadine)
Duchess Suedomsa (disappears)
Mercedes (disappears)
Cardinal Alcandor
11 Female Zombies
32 Male Zombies
1 Friendly Zombie (conjured with Vampyre Eye)
1 Rocking Horse Zombie
8 Mummies
10 "Cylix Born" Skeletons, with or without sword
6 Haunts
2 Nobleman-Apparitions (brown-clad guys, throws stuff at you, disappears in a puff of smoke when vanquished)
1 Semi-transparent Blue Ultra-fast Apparition
1 Male Lesser Vampyre (turns into a zombie when slain)
2 Female Greater Vampyres (dressed in white gown)
2 Male Greater Vampyres (look somewhat like Keepers)
2 Vampyre Mists
1 Semi-invisible slow-mo variant of the beast from Calendra´s Cistern
1 Eye in the Sky (including its "camera")
When you want to play around in this mission, it is good to know...
...that when you trigger Mercedes, the Gleaming Facet and the Psychic´s place gets inaccessible.
...that when you trigger Mercedes, the game "kills" several guards, and if you have blackjacked any of those (you can pick up the blackjack without triggering Mercedes) you will fail the "no kill" objective. The ones I know are "safe" to blackjack are the three guards on the west side of the police station (plus the one inside), the Falstaff Wizards, the two guards at Meepwood Bridge Guard Station, the people inside Black Die and finally the guard just outside Black Die.
...that Kharras Drahg heals you if you hit a living opponent (this includes the Calendra-beast). A sideswipe heals you just as much as an overhead strike.
...since the Calendra-beast counts as a living opponent, the mission fails if you kill it.
I had a lot of use of the Falstaff Wizard on the upper ledge and his lackey, the Eye in the Sky. This wizard killed five of the six vampyre mists and finally the super-fast apparition. But before it fell, the apparition managed to destroy the camera that triggers the Eye in the Sky (The Eye must be a remade turret). The camera is located below the Eye, and a bit in front of it. The camera is invisible normally, but when destroyed, it looks like any broken Eye of the Builder. You can probably take it out with a fire arrow.
I healed myself a lot on the Calendra-beast during the mission. So much that it got killed and I had to reload. Instead, I led it back to the rented room and locked it up there to get it out of the way for my undead-hunting.
The last things I did (before destroying the Cylix):
* Summon the friendly zombie in my rented room, so it could kill the weakened beast. Did you know that the beast has this "on and off" invisibility thing going even after it´s dead?
* Reasseble the amulet (very easy since all wizards were out and the Eye had no camera)
* Get back to my zombie and kill it with the amulet (OK, I must admit that was overkill (I had Holy Water left) but why not?)
Final stats:
Time: 6.10.38
Loot 5095/5230
Backstabs 224 (Wow!)
Damage dealt: 26485
Damage taken: 50
Healing taken: 42
Innocents killed: none and others killed: 187
Iron Beasts destroyed: 1
The Cardinal was weird. I made one backstab, he reacted, but then stood still. I could just stand there and backstab him. Each time, he released a puff of smoke. After about 10-12 hits, he fell.

That report made for very interesting reading, jiansonz! You must have spend a very long time on the mission to figure all that stuff out. I was especially interested in the fact that blackjacking certain AI before you trigger the undead can cause the mission to fail. That may have been the cause of some problems that people reported.

Just a quick comment: This is a really large file to download. IMO, it would have been great if Komag, Purah, The Circle, et al would have warned before downloading that this is a zombie mission (a big enough part of it, at any rate). For those of you who host FM's, FM reviews, Links, or whatever, plz try to warn ppl about zombie missions! :p
epithumia on 26/11/2002 at 22:56
Since my site is the only place you can actually download the mission, I suppose that would fall on me. And rest assured, I have absolutely no intentions of doing such a thing, any more than I would put up a warning that the mission has a protagonist who uses a blackjack.

In case anyone still wants to know, I think I've found the remaining 135 in loot...
There is a tiny ring worth 10 gold sitting on the wagon just outside Meepwood cemetary.

There is a bridge on the south side of Watercrest (?) island, which leads to a square just east of the entrance to Vilrath's garden. In the water below this bridge there are several supports, and three narrow passageways between those supports that you can swim through. Find the southernmost passageway, and swim just out the western part of it. On the canal bottom is a tiny stack of Lucky Coins, worth 20 gold.

In Dark Rose Market, there is a stack of Lucky Coins on the ground, worth 5 coins (actually it might be worth 20, and the other coins may count for 5 - I can't remember for sure). The coins are located north of the female vampyre in white, near the railing.
And finally...
There are two masks (object types "BukaguMask" and "InuitMask") embedded in the wall of the museum vault, just above and to either side of the rest of the treasure. Each is worth 50 gold. This is disappointing, I know... I'd be happy if someone were to prove me wrong about their accessibility.
