Of course!!! I recently re-installed Thief II and totally forgot about the patch. Serves me right. Since I am almost done with Act II, I think I WILL do the skip mission thing rather than start all over. Thanks!!!!

So I thought I would explore the city and went back to my room to get my gear, but there was none, just a water crystal! Figuring I'm on a time limit I rushed off to find the Cardinal...
Made a few stops on the way, but after giving him/it the cylix I get the objective to go to my rented room. Excellent, I think, I can now get my stuff! So I have my chat with the ex and steal her purse. Then I "persuade" her to kill the lantern gaurd for me. A gentleman, I'm not; besides it was a business arrangement. She should be more careful, witch. And YES, Lara Croft does have a nicer ass than you! Don't blame the graphics engine, it's the bon-bons that did it.
It's not long until I realize the city is freaking crawling with undead! Very cool, custom undead, but, as Shaggy would say, ZOIKS! Should have explored more before!
Very scary, it's going to be a wet mission, the canals appear to be the safest route. I need a weapon! If I had a sword I could at least take out haunts. Hopefully, dis blade of zer vampyr is not just an objective...
I have slogged my way to the Fallstaff Wizards Guild. It's close to an exit point from the canal. (Love having some detail on the map, thanks Purah!) I came, I creeped, I konked. The vampire dagger is mine. I can use it and it makes my light gem darker, handy that.
Don't have the other stuff yet from the Cardinal's spell book, the undead uberveapon will have to wait.
I tested the dagger on the first undead I could jump:
1. Zombie gal in a burgundy peasant dress, killed no problem, ok, one problem, if you kill one in a frontal assualt they damage you when they explode, 3-4 shields worth! So now I am patient and take them from behind (OK, that sounds very sick but you taffers know what I meant), they are sooooo sloooow.
2. Haunt, back stabbed, poof! Me likey!
3. Here's the real cool one: there's a creepy phantom version of the monster from Calendra's Cistern, it walks a circular route along the wooden pier just outside the Wizard's Guild. The dagger heals you when you damage him! Guess it's a living creature. Need to keep him around for a while, think I'll call him Cutty (back stab, jump into canal, healed!).
Curious, I equipped my sap and I have left a red mist/cloud behind. Wonder what that portends? Maybe I will only equip the dagger as needed.
Now I go-a-hunting! "Bua Ha Ha Ha Harafaarggh urrp..damn frozen tuna..."
What a long message, sorry, just rambled. I see I glossed over the Cathedral,. Ah well, tell me to shut up now...

No, no! Don't shut up. :D It's always fun to read about someone else's experiences first time through a mission. Feel free to post more if you like.

I agree with Nightwalker. It's part of the family trait. Sharing one's experiences with the FM's (and tricksie parts of the "game") is interesting to most of us.

I know I'm probably going over old ground as there's been a couple of threads on objectives not ticking off. I've got the same problem in the Cardinal's room but can I just check before I download patches and restart the level - should the first objective tick off straight after the thingy-me-bob is chucked down the chute or is it later (eg when I leave the cathedral?). I'm still in the cardinal's room with the first objective not ticked off and the second objective now to get my stash from the room.

Not sure, but try quitting Murkbell. In DARK select T2. Then INSTALL ONLY, at the bottom.
Now your saves for MURKBELL will be in the ALLSAVES file. If you then use the patch the saves will not be affected.
Then after the patch restart Dark, Select CALENDRA and PLAY, this will start the game and you will have all the saves you made in MURKBELL, in the save list.
Select the SAVE nearest the Drop the Crylix, and Drop it again and continue. With luck you should be on your way.

Thanks Blackman, I'm downloading the patch right now so I'll try your suggestion and keep my fingers crossed that your advice works!
By the way, sorry to be stupid but what do I do with the patch once downloaded?(!)
theBlackman on 26/11/2003 at 22:05
Most patches are EXE files. Use START RUN BROWSE, bring up the file and OK. It should find Calendra by itself and install itself with no action on your part except to RUN the patch you downloaded.
If it is a ZIP file, then UNZip it and check the read me, or again, it may self install when unzipped.

Thanks Blackman, I should have realised before I asked that the patch would be as simple as you said !
Problem is I've still got the same problem. The Darkloader version seems OK - version 4. Have you got any other suggestions? This is really frustrating!

Find your ALLSAVES, it is in the THIEF folder(s) There should be one in Tgold, TDP, and T2.
Make a copy of each OUTSIDE THIEF.
Find the most current DARKLOADER Ver 4.1005 or some such (it will end in 5). DL it from (
www.thiefmissions.com) or from (
www.keepofmetalandgold.com.)
Uninstall your current Dark. Install the new one.
SETUP DARK I presume you know how.
Check the ALLSAVES in the folders (the one in the games, not the ones you saved). OPEN them there should be a list of saves labled ZIP. IE. Calendralegacy__Zip etc.
If they are there, then when Dark is setup try Calendras again.
If they are not there, copy paste THE CONTENTS OF THE SAVED COPY YOU MADE into the ALLSAVES folder of the correct game.
Start Dark and try Calendra again.
Actually, I would DL the NEWEST version of CALENDRA from THIEFMISSIONS. It is patched and ready to go.
Then remove the copy you have, and just plug the new one into the folder where you keep your FM's.
Then start and play the game. It should recognize the saves you made, and you play on.
