Yes, you can get to the Cylix from either side (provided you have the means to get into the cemetary.
So... Where is the entrance?

I think there are at least two. The best is in a mausoleum at the far end of the cemetary (seen from the gate into the cemetary). You get into this mausoleum on the rear wall from where you enter the cemetary. I think you need to find a switch - look for something to frob close by.
I also think there is a possible entrance at the very SW corner of the cemetary. But I also think this requires you to drop down a hole just in front of the Cardinal . I don´t know how many torches you can reach to put out from this direction. Hmm, are there invisibility potions in this mission, because I think you might need one in that case...
Or was this hole reached from inside the mansion? I honestly don´t remember.

There is a hole in the floor in the basement of the caretaker's mansion. That area is brightly lit and has several undead patrolling, so I dared not go down there. And yes, there is an invisibility potion you can pick up in the psychic's shop.

Alright, I had to check this out.
The door I described first is indeed there (not that easy to spot since it´s overgrown with vines), on the largest building in the cemetary, along the wall facing away from the gates to the cemetary.
The bad news is that I found only one switch to the door, on the inside:p (it´s in the form of a skull).
The good news is that the door will open if you use a little violence on it (sword, blackjack, or try to kill two birds with one stone by shooting a fire arrow at a zombie close to the door ;) ).

to find the cardinal and the Cylix in the cemetery, if you can't actually get to them that way by normal means?! Quote:

head back to the cathedral via the canals.Another thing that bugs me about this mission is that in the early part, you don't have a blackjack and thereby no means of dealing with enemies, and by the time you finally get hold of it, it's completely and utterly useless, because you're dealing exclusively with enemies that can't be blackjacked anyway. :nono:

I am replaying this level and keep getting undead moans and groans no matter where I am and this happens with no undead in sight. I read the book in St Trinett's about the 3 eyes of the amulet and suspect that the sounds are a result of me having these 3 gems on me.Is this the case?
After getting double crossed by the Cardinal, i managed to fetch my equipment without triggering the arrival of Mercedes, since i wanted to explore the map without undead all over the place. Would this break the mission?
:cheeky:
EDIT: Curse! I finished most of my objectives (except for destroy the cylix), then went and triggered mercedes and the objective 'don't kill anyone' fails! But i didn't kill anyone, only knocked out people and as far as i can tell, no AI accidently killed themselves either. My stats screen shows one body found by enemies - perhaps the game is interpreting this as me having killed someone? Hours of work down the drain...
EDIT2: Ah, looks like this problem has cropped up before...

Hmm...I never had this happen, but I don't think I ever carried all three gems at the same time either. It could of course be the invisible beast from Calendra's Cistern lurking about. It is most often found surrounding the museum.

Yeah this is a common error, along with the final objective not checking off. I've never had either happen. From what I've heard, Thief recognizes you as the source of the undead-trigger.

I, too, just happen to be re-living Calendra! The moans and groans, I believe, are related to having the gems-possibly one in particular. Can't remember which one at the moment, but try "useing" one of them and a "friend" will appear. I think that particular gem also will cause you to slowly lose life unless you drop it. I have a problem with the Cardinal objective ticking off after dropping the cylix down hatch. Bell never tolls and objective never ticks off. Everything else seems to work fine except I cannot assemble the Zilich amulet. Nothing happens when placing all the articles in pentagram. I am using 1.18 patched version of Thief. Please help! Thanks. For some reason the spoiler tag did not take-sorry

Here are the effects of the three gems:
Vampyre Eye: Spawns a pet zombie if you "use" it.
Ghoul Eye: Makes all nearby undead aware of your position if you "use" it (ouch!).
Eye of the Lich: Drains life - it starts a short while after you pick it up.

It would seem that having the Vampyre Eye causes the moans and groans cause it was the very first gem i picked up. You can hear zombie moans and also a voice saying "i am the son of Arkhyn".
How fast does the Eye of the Lich drain your hitpoints? I had it for ages before it would just drain one hit point, I am not sure if it would drain more then that after a few more minutes, because i would reload before the drain and then it would take ages again before draining one hitpoint. It seems that the rate of drain is random and can be 'reset' by reloading.
I read earlier in the thread (page 11), that after you trigger Mercedes certain areas cannot be accessed i.e. the psychic shop and gleaming gem store, does this mean you can't get full loot after triggering Mercedes?
Also the Black Lotus potion of healing that costs 3,000. I tested it by getting deliberately injured and then drinking the potion, which then healed me to full health. I got injured again and got healed back to full health, but the potion only ultimate heals so many hitpoints. It would seem this potion isn't really that special, i might as well buy 12 healing potions. I was playing on Expert, so it probably doesn't heal as much, then if i was playing on Normal, just like with normal healing potions.
