I read earlier in the thread (page 11), that after you trigger Mercedes certain areas cannot be accessed i.e. the psychic shop and gleaming gem store, does this mean you can't get full loot after triggering Mercedes?
That is true. Don't know about the psychic's but the Gleaming Facet is true. That is the only con I have on this mission; everything else is perfect. Just don't see any reason to block off certain buildings like that.

How fast does the Eye of the Lich drain your hitpoints? I had it for ages before it would just drain one hit point, I am not sure if it would drain more then that after a few more minutes, because i would reload before the drain and then it would take ages again before draining one hitpoint. It seems that the rate of drain is random and can be 'reset' by reloading. The 'very random' thing is in line with my observations. I had one time where it
shaved off 5 hit points during the short sprint from the garden to the Wizards´place!klatremus is correct - you can´t get full loot unless you loot these places before the NLDE.
(You can still get the
Vampyre Eye, though. If you don´t grab it before the Facet is closed off, I think it moves to
the chest in the building overlooking the market place (the one with a rope arrow in it).

The Cardinal Climb the ladder to the balcony. Enter the cathedral. Turn left into the main hall. With your back to the altar go to the left. In the first room on the left you will find the Cardinal's chambers.
At the right rear corner of the room is a small opening to the lower level. As you approach a voice will tell you to drop the item into the chute there.
That is as close as you will get to the Cardinal. A disembodied voice from a hole in the wall.
You can take a shortcut to the cathedral through the building next to the Museum. Put a rope arrow into the wooden sign hanging there, enter the window, pass through and you get to the Cathedral wall and the rear right of the main building.

Yeah the way through Croft's loft definitely helps. Think it is hinted in the map even.
There is kinda one way to get closer to the cardinal, at least for a second. Use a scouting orb. ;)
This is the best mission ever made, in my humble opinion.

Thank goodness I'm finally past the timed portion and am able to explore. What a fantastic level this is. The first part of it -- the morning part -- was good but not a standout, but this...this is unbelievable. Now that I'm not dashing around I'm able to appreciate just how good it is. If this mission had appeared in one of the two original Thief games I would not have suspected for an instant that it was a fan mission, except perhaps for the difficulty.
And it is difficult. I'll have to leave the ghosting for some other time. This time, I'm afraid I have had to resort to violence against humans on a number of occasions, which I have not done since my very first game of Thief Gold, before I knew better. Not very Garrett-like, but it gets the job done. Once I know the level a little better I'll put the knife away and stay in the shadows. I would really rather have had my blackjack, because I dislike leaving a trail of corpses and murder isn't true to the spirit of the game.
Now, what on earth am I to do with that brightly-lit doorway in the Cemetary? I have ony 9 fire arrows and am down to three flash bombs.

One more question. Is it better to wait until close to the the end to go to the rente room? I guess that's what trigers the zombies. I wouldn;t mind having all my stuff, but this is a bit much!
Edit -- Never mind. Back to an earlier save.
I really don't know what I'm doing here. Even with the invitationthe guards at the Museum do NOT think I'm Dr. Prevost. They just attack me. Guess I'll have to do them in after all. So what's the use of the invitation, then, if it doesn't get you into the Museaum safely? I haven't been seen by anyone in the Museum previously, just snuck in, looked around without triggering any reactions, and then left.
Anyway, the guard at the front door says "Oh, Dr. Prevost, I didn't see you," and then starts attacking me. Is there any way around this? Obviously the letter works, but the guard gets hostile anyway. I really don't want to have to kill everyone in the museum, and sneaking just isn't an option with that light-carrying guard upstairs, and anyway I suspect I'll fail my mission if I do.

On and on. Museum is now full of corpses but I have all the stuff.
I found the amulet and the three eyes I remember reading about, and I'm sure I have to go back to the Wizard's place. But once there I can't figure out what to do. The walkthrough says I am supposed to have a "spellbook," which I place with the eys on the pentagram. But I have no spellbook. I can't imagine that at this point I haven't been in every interior space, but I haven't found a spellbook.
Where do I find the spellbook? Can anyone help, please?
klatremus on 7/9/2008 at 15:52
The spellbook is at
the cathedral (St. Trinett's) in Cardinal Alcandor's bedroom. And you absolutely need it to finish
the ritual at the Wizards'. So I guess you have to make it back and dodge the guards once more. Sorry about that.
Glad you liked the mission after the timed event. Like I said I consider this the best mission out there. :D
Check out my loot/equipment list here:

It also has a link to the ghost report, and the lists for the other two missions can be found in the FMs-section.
Good luck! :thumb:

Back to the scene of the original crime, eh? Well, just this once I won't regret having that knife. :cheeky:
Once I'm done with this I'll do another sweep of the town before triggering the Attack of the Zombies, just in case there's a stash of Flash Bombs I missed somewhere. Love those Flash Bombs. Would prefer a few regular mines, though. It's not hard to sneak around the Zombies but I really prefer a more explosive resolution. They do blow up so nice.
klatremus on 8/9/2008 at 03:07
Hehe well if you manage to complete the ritual at the wizards' using the spellbook, you'll have one serious anti-zombie weapon ... :ebil:
Oh and a piece of advice: you can retrieve all of the equipment from your room without triggering the undead scenario.
