So, I'm visiting the US in March and will be taking a 2 week camping tour package of California. To those that have been there, do you guys have any suggestions of areas or sights to visit in the respective cities?
Places I will be visiting as part of the tour.
* Los Angeles
* San Diego
* Grand Canyon
* Vegas
* San Francisco

(
http://www.redandwhite.com/) These guys do sightseeing tours around the bay. A reasonably relaxing way to kill some time.
Eating: The Cliff House. Great food, great view.

Los Angeles Daytime Activities:
* Griffith Park Observatory
* LACMA/La Brea Tarpits (you can probably hit them both in a day, since they're right next to each other)
* Chinatown/Olvera Street(also in very close proximity to each other)
* Museum of Natural History
* Amusement Park (Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Magic Mountain. Take your pick)
* The Queen Mary/Spruce Goose
* Long Beach Aquarium (though if you're driving you'll probably want to hit the Monterey Bay Aquarium on the way to San Francisco instead)
Los Angeles Night Life (bring at the very least casual dressy clothes):
* The Edison
* The Varnish
* Seven Grand

If it's a clear sky, count the stars - that should kill a couple of minutes.

A trip to the Death Valley, if you come out alive, consider it a miracle.
:weird:

I'm not sure if it's part of my itinerary. But damn I want to visit it!

Santa Monica or Venice Beach. It is true the pier is on a very touristy side, but even so, on a nice warm day, the beaches are absolutely wonderful.

Also around LA:
If you're even a tiny bit interested in art or architecture, the Getty center is a must-do.
I prefer Venice beach to Santa Monica for the people watching, but you can park at Santa Monica pier and walk the beach down to Venice.
Studio tours are really popular but I haven't done any so can't recommend which (not really my thing).
Don't forget to spend some time in the central coast on your way up to SF.
Drive the Pacific Coast Highway from Morro Bay to Monterey. Camp in Big Sur along the way, and eat at Nepenthe Restaurant. Do the 17-mile drive in Pacific Grove and visit the aquarium in Monterey. Bars and restaurants on Cannery Row. Staying at Asilomar in Pacific Grove is a good alternative to the motels in Monterey (camp-like setting on the beach).
The boardwalk in Santa Cruz is a good dinner spot.
Lots of stuff to do in San Fran, but my short list would be:
Rent a bike and ride across the Golden Gate bridge and back, maybe with a stop for lunch in Sausalito.
See Golden Gate park, particularly the Japanese tea garden.
Get an Irish coffee (or three) at the Buena Vista cafe on Hyde St.
Then if you don't mind waiting in a queue, ride the cable car up Hyde to the top of Russian hill and check out Lombard St.
A tour of Alcatraz is nice, but will eat up half a day with the waiting and ferry ride.
Fisherman's wharf and Haight are overrated.
If you're into wine, spend a day in Napa.

Bugger!!! So much to do, so little time... :sweat:
FYI I'm taking a (
http://www.trekamerica.com/tours/w2w.html) tour package. Artsy fartsy stuff is not my thing. I heard that Fisherman's Wharf was overrated and dodgy at night. (So is Los Angeles HA! :joke:)
