Like I said in the title.
I have ordered it from amazon and it should be arriving within the next week.
I was wondering if any of you had preliminary opinions if you've played it (preferably PC version).

I can officially tell you that there will be news on the PC version 'soon'. Probably within the next few weeks.
Read carefully: I'm talking about 'news', not the actual game itself.
Oh, and it's good news
So I'm not sure we'll be seeing the PC release for at least a few weeks yet. Unless something horribly weird and unnatural has happened and things have changed since yesterday.
From what I've been able to piece together, the PC version is most likely ready, boxed, on CDs, labelled, and probably sitting in a storage room until whenever Microsoft says "the X-Box version has had enough of a head start... you can release the PC version now"

Call of Cthulhu is pretty fun.
Partway through the game, however, it becomes more of a first person horror shooter, which I felt was kind of disappointing; the game up to that moment was gold IMO.
It can get somewhat frustrating in places (especially against some bosses) and since injuries are very dangerous, the fighting can be a pain at times. There's absolutely no HUD; you can guess at your character's current condition by screen condition and listening to the noises he makes. You have the use the firearm's iron sights for any hope of being accurate.
I'd personally give it an 8/10.

All this stuff about hallucinations, and voices in your head etc that were claimed to be ace in previews? Is that still there?
I only remember this game from an old preview (and occasional lurking on ttlg) and there were a lot of cool features that i doubt made it to the final game.
So, hallucinations? Voices? Having to look inside your gun to see how much ammo is left? having to heal yourself by tying a tournique (sp?) and stitching up a wound? Or is it your fairly average gaming fair?

I really enjoyed this game.
Great atmosphere, great sound, great story, etc.
Defcon's right though, the game - a bit like Undying in that respect, or maybe even System Shock 2 with the Assault Rifle - turns from a creepy game to more of a shooter towards the end. I didn't mind that though; in fact, I felt the famous no-gun part of the game went on for a bit too long. That's more to do with the game's biggest problem though: the massive amount of trial-and-error gameplay! Some sections really made me
Shimmying along a cliff face whilst the tide is about to drag you out to sea with only some shitty brass rings to hold onto? What fun! :eww:
This also has to do with some control issues. The button for bolting a door shut is exactly the same as for opening the door, so it can often happen that you open a door when you want to bolt it shut. Result = shotgun in your face. Otherwise, the controls on the Xbox are cool; rumbling is used especially effectively in this game, e.g.
during the FBI torture scene.
Conclusion: If you can get over a few control issues and persevere through the trial-and-error sections, you'll have a really enjoyable game on your hands. My post may sound a bit negative, but I definately do recommend this game.

It really does get to feeling like one of those console Medal of Honor games (but with spooks and puzzles!), which may be all right for some, but I really got annoyed with it. There's a factory level about midway through the game that's just really bland and awful (featuring respawning enemies!), and I lost interest in the game soon after that.

Yep. The sanity system is still in. I've experienced only a few effects from it (if what I read on the forums is correct), but sometimes it made me go holy ****! Sometimes it was hard to tell if what I was hearing was actualy happening or my character's sanity slipping away.
You can die if your sanity runs too low, so be careful, k?

i just read the user reviews on EBGames.com, and i was laughing at how many people were like OMG so boring there is no shooting just running from monsters...
i guess people have never played CoC (or even read a Lovecraft story)? A Lovecraftian shooter (a la Halflife style) would completely destroy the atmosphere and nature of CoC.

I have to agree with this, though I would say that for me, it pushed the game over to the not-quite-worth-it side of things. After a while, I gave up and printed out a walkthrough just so I could finish it. And I'll never play it again.

When did the release date get pushed back to May 1st for the PC? It was end of February for so long, but i just looked on GameSpot, and it shows May 1st. Argh, i was hoping i'd finally get to play this damn game.
