You can't have a quicksave, that would take away from the suspense.
I have to say that in Canada, we do boycott Nike everytime there's a camera around. People don't get paid here either, but it only applies to students.
Huh, I heard that the save point system just makes the game ten times more annoying then it should be by forcing you to play through the same part over and over again. That was one of the main complaints that reviewers had, and as I said before what I hated the most about Far Cry.
As for payment in Canada - Lol, i'll have to take your word for it on that.:p
Still I don't quite see what you're referring to when it comes to people not getting paid here - unless you're talking about illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigrants get paid. That's why they come here.

I agree but sometimes I whish there was an autosave after doing each task.
I'm having a hard time on dangerous voyage:
I have a save just as I get the ammo for Henson. Well I have played quite a few times and not been able to save so far. I mean an autosave after successful use of the artillery to shoot out the sorcerers wouldn't be too much to ask would it?
Sometimes I get killed going to or from the infirmary, sometimes I get killed on deck, once I was killed because I was too slow to grip the rail when the waves came in. Once I got as far as into the captains room while my friends got killed outside then I got into the armory before getting killed myself.
It's not that fun to play this whole sequence over and over again never knowing when I will be able to save. Give me a fucking quicksave after the artillery and I'm satisfied.......
Well I guess I will just try this sequence a few times now and then until I finally make it or get too bored of it and give up. I just whish I knew how to get a save in there somehow.

Just head down to the supply room to save every two to three minutes till you get to the boss.
For example, I headed to the supply room to save after giving Henson the medical pack. Then I came right back and helped Henson fend off the fishmen. After they stopped attacking, I saved again in the supply room and got ready for the tidal waves.
Also, there is another save room right before the captain's room. It's on the right side after coming down the stairs from the upper main deck.
Yeah, but they get payed shit wages for the work they're doing. That's why companies support them coming in because they know they can take advantage - all the while driving down wages for everyone else.
But enough of this. It has nothing to do with the subject at hand.

Thanks, I got through to the Boss now using this technique. Too bad it spoils any immersion. Having to run of to another room now and then to save :tsktsk:
Tried the Boss twice, but man is he a toughie
Gotta try him again tomorrow....

Bit off topic, but if anyone is interested i'm hosting a PBP (play by post) CoC game on a PBP forum. We haven't started yet and are giving players a chance to sign up... PM if interested.

i'm at the very end of the game when you have left to do is
run like hell to get out of the crumbling cave
and no matter what i do i
get to the end of the long ledge and go through the newly opened gate and I always get crushed right as i step out onto the rock bridge. always. i've done it 10 times (i'm a pro by now) and unless there's a special "run fast" button there's no way to do it any faster.
the only walkthrough i can find just tells you to go on through and doesn't address this at all.
anyone else run into this?

i ended up on cthulhu forums and there were several tactics (including lowering the resolution on the game, jumping at the right moments) and from what i can tell, you have to do a combination of them to squeak out of the game. a lot of people had trouble with this.
all in all, it was a frustrating way to finish. i was a gameplay minute from finishing the game at 11:30 this morning and just got done at 3:15 p.m., after repeating the sequence at least 40 times.
DCotE wasn't a bad experience, frustrations aside. but the other day i recalled those first gameplay movies to spring up several years ago, which showed you killing monster while hallucinating and rolling the body over only to watch it change into a person, and one where you were being chased by a creature and went into a room, frantically shoving furniture in front of the door while it pounded on the door. needless to say, that wasn't the game we ended up with (with the exception of a sequence or two). the atmosphere was very good, but it was extremely linear and cinematic and i found the gameplay so lacking that it was little more than a mechanism to push the story forward and not very entertaining in its own rite. i ended up using the walkthrough a lot, which is probably why i didn't mind playing it.

I picked this game up recently. Great atmosphere, good story, unforgivable saving scheme.
Limiting saves is lazy design.
