i committed a heresy (Cthulhu have mercy on me!) - i opted to buy Oblivion instead of CoC for now... with the instability of the nature of the development of CoC, i opted to wait and see how the reviews pan out (in terms of bugs).
Certainly a fair enough move in the circumstances. I strongly expect to be doing the exact opposite, buying DCotE, and ignoring Oblivion :) Release date for me is a few days later than for some, so I'm hoping I hear enough positive comments about atmosphere and gameplay and stability in those few days so that I don't need to wait longer than absolutely necessary :) (with future support being incredibly unlikely, I'll be absolutely gutted if there are serious bugs).

Installing it now :cheeky:
But, I will have to wait until my son is asleep to try it. :bored:

Please post screenshots and commentary!

Thanks! That's looking rather good actually. If you can, post more non-spoilerish screens. I shall be getting this :D

Actually, those were the most non-spoilerish screens I could get.
There were some other rooms in the prologue that would have been much more spoilerish to show.:eek:
But anyway, so far I haven't got a clue as to what is going on. It's just a mystery to me.:weird: :confused:
Anyway, don't look to this if you want fast-paced action. So far it's been an FPS adventure, which I like very much. I have no weapons. I'm walking around finding things to use and talking to people trying to piece together some information.:)
This evening I will try some sneaking. I have an idea as to where I want to go but there is someone patrolling the area. I will try to sneak past him.:idea:

Ah, yes.
That part.
Anyway, savor it...

Ah, yes. Well I have played just a little bit longer. Have been playing Neverwinter Nights coop with a friend so I haven't had much time for CoC DCotE.
Anyway. So far I have played about 20% of the game (according to statistics). It's a solid adventure in HP Lovecraft's world. If you are looking for replayability, look elsewhere as it is so far a classic adventure although in first person mode. You have to do the right things in the right order. Wasn't it Headfirst who did Simon the Sorcerer (a classic point and click) well then they have moved over to first person view in a very good way. Gives me hope for the future of adventure games. :D
Although it is so far an adventure it is not always slow paced. Yesterday I played through the most frantic scene in a game I have ever played. I was hunted and had no means to defend myself. I had to move through buildings, barricading myself in rooms, jumping out of windows etc. All the while beeing chased. And as there are no quick-saves I had to get past this frantic scene to get to the saving point. I must have died a hundred times (slight exaggeration) before I finally made it to safety. :thumb:
Later in the game I will get some weaponry and it will turn more into a shooter adventure. I don't know how that works yet but hopefully it will be as good as this part.
So to sum up. This game is for you if you like:
* Adventure games
* Horror (esp. HP Lovecraft) (some of the imagery is :eek: )
* Slow paced games
* Fast paced games
* First person perspective
Remember that this game does not allow you to save whenever you want.
As such a game I heartily recommend it:thumb:

I must say, though, that after I got a gun my interest sort of trailed off....of course I got Oblivion that same day but whatever.

So where in the world do you buy this game anyway for the PC? Nobody has it. :p
