Ok, we got enough people babbling about this game that it clearly needs it's own thread. I'm only 6 missions in but so far my assessment is that it's a very good over-the-top first person shooter. The gameplay brings to mind other great recent FPS's like RAGE and Far Cry 3. Techland's own Dead Island can also often be felt in the game's DNA. Oh, and Bulletstorm! There's a very Bulletstorm-esque "arcade mode" where you run through levels and try to score as highly as possible. If you kill enemies quickly in succession you can string together combos. The best players can string all the baddies in a level together in one long combo.

Despite the great gameplay I'm not feeling any hurry to get back to the game and finish it, because if Gunslinger has a problem it's that the story just isn't particularly gripping. It's some sort of revenge-tale I think? A hunt for some guy named Bob? The whole plot feels a bit Assassin's Creedy in that it tries to shoehorn in every legendary western-hero along the way. And perhaps it's this more than anything that hurts the overall plot.
But even if the story isn't very good, the way it's told is stellar. As you're playing, the story is being unfolded by your character, Silas Greaves, to some fellow bar patrons. And the fact that Silas is completely full of shit makes the story, and the gameplay, more entertaining. Frequently the gameplay and the level will change halfway through as the story changes in the telling. I'm trying not to mention any concrete examples here because I feel like a lot of people can't help but do so when talking about this game, but it's best if you experience it firsthand for yourself.
So, bottomline: It's very good, and cheap as hell. Only 15 bucks! Worth it for the gunplay and a few good laughs.

Yeah, been playing this too and loving it. It's a very good shooter that's also funny, pretty and atmospheric. You're right about the story not been particularly gripping in itself, although I don't mind the who's who of the Wild West side of it, but the telling is what is keeping my coming back. Plus, I really like the collectables ('nuggets of truth') and how they act as a bit of counterpoint to the totally romanticised Wild West adventure you're taking part in. Overall, it's the most pure fun I've had gaming in quite a while. A total surprise.

Hell yeah! Played demo this weekend, bought on Steam two minutes after I was done with it. Almost done with main story, then there's New Game Plus and True West mode and all those Arcade levels I suck at...
The gunplay is amazingly smooth and sexy, the narration is lovely. Recommended to pretty much everyone who ever liked a shooter game.

This looks good. Perhaps a bit too arcade for my taste, but it could still be interesting and it sure looks pretty fun. I've been looking for a good shooter with a Wild West setting ever since I played (and loved) Outlaws, and this could be the one... or could it? :p
I'm gonna have to listen to the Outlaws soundtrack album again now.

Finished the main story. The plot pulls itself together pretty well at the end. I could see the plottwist coming a couple levels before it happened to enjoyed watching it play out nonetheless. Btw did anyone notice the connection between this game and the earlier games? It's pretty tenuous but it's there. Hint: search around for Nuggets of Truth in the final level.

I downloaded the demo on Steam and gave it a try... it is indeed pretty good. A bit too hectic at times, but I guess I'm just not used enough to this sort of thing. :p I thought I would hate the score system and the kill multipliers and stuff, but it didn't bother me at all. I love the graphical style of the game, and I was positively surprised to find out that it runs pretty much perfectly on my computer too! I think I'll buy this game when I've got time to play something new again.
Are the other Call of Juarez games any good and still worth playing? If they're anything like this one, I might try them out as well.

I enjoyed the demo, but half of the time I couldn't tell what was happening on screen. Since I've never heard anyone else complain about it I'm assuming that it's only me. When there's a lot of detail packed in with sharp contrast I sometimes lose sense of depth and 3D. (Parts of Crysis 2 looked completely boggled to me, but Portal 2 and Dishonored were A-OK.)

I did have a little bit of trouble with that myself at first, and the various popups didn't help, but I ended up adjusting to it.

I had the same problem with Bulletstorm. Had to give up after I realised I sounded like some crotchety old man shouting "Cansarnit - make up your god damned MIND!" into my monitor every few minutes.

Yes, they are definitely worth it. And I also think they can be now as cheap as this one (if not cheaper). You switch characters in first game, so it is part stealth part shooter. Second one puts some new mechanics to the gameplay. Those games are fun.
