Eastwood's "The Man with No Name" was pretty much like Rambo in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy. Don't forget Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch, especially the finale.

Why?
Western gunfights, to me, evoke images of people taking cover and trading fire with wildly-inaccurate weapons, not one man running out into the street and killing everyone at a speed that rivals Quake.

Agreed. And honestly, CoJ felt a bit too run-and-gun for me. That's fine for Painkiller, but it feels out of place in a Western game.
This makes me question whether we played the same game.

Ignore catbarf. He's the kid who thinks Doom 3 and Bioshock are somehow the same game and seems to think that Bioshock is worse than Halo because it doesn't have vehicles.

I played up to the end of the town level as the preacher. Felt rather fast-paced to me, often fighting four or five enemies at a time. Perhaps I played it in the unintended manner. But with very quick reloads and accurate guns, it worked.

Hmm, let's see what I really typed.

I agree. Bioshock is a good game, and a good shooter. I'm just not so happy with the implementation of the ideas- it's a fast-paced, Doom-styled shooter, when it could have been so much more with just a few changes.
Reading comprehension can be fun.

Once again. I enjoyed Bioshock. I think it's the superior game. But I STILL enjoy Halo, because I can actually play it on a LAN with other people. And when I replay the single-player campaign, I get a variety of weapons and enemies, although some levels do use repetitive level design. Bioshock's fun, and superior in style, plot, and gameplay, but only worth one and a half playthroughs. They have their own merits.
And of course, the two sequels are pure shit...

Sounds like a reasonable assessment, but I still wouldn't class it along with Quake etc. I'm not sure about the difficulty settings, but I had to take cover. The preacher can take more punishment than the other guy but you still have to be careful.
The preacher missions are there to compliment the stealth missions in a way.I recall many times after sneaking past a load of guys and thinking I couldn't wait to rain fire & brimstone on them :ebil:

I wasn't aware that the two characters were so diametrically opposed- I got rather frustrated with poor performance. Maybe I'll give it another try.

You'd be doing yourself a favor. It is also on 360, if you have one, since you had poor performance.

Now that I think about it, one thing that really irked me was the number of bugs I encountered. The game seemed rather unpolished and occasionally frustrating. Did I just miss the patches or somesuch? Either way, I'll give it another go.
