Arise, thread!
With the release of 1.19, this project has been resurrected.
There's a lot of activity happening in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140187) this thread over in The Editor's Guild.
There are a lot of unfinished textures in this thread, which were never fully polished or completed.
Kolya, you never really finalised any of your textures - what happened to those?

http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2707/banner7otherd.pngI actually liked the creases in this version, which were removed from the later versions.
The crest in the middle always looked wrong, in every single version of this texture. I don't quite know how to make it look more part of the fabric and less like something glued onto the front. The circles also seem too clean and circular, whereas the ones on the original were fairly indistinct.
Inline Image:
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/1565/stonenewsmall.pngThis is a little too monochromatic compared to the original, which had darker, redder and lighter sections that gave it a little more character.

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5715/greensmall.pngThe various parts could do with a little nudging to fit closer into the alignment of the original texture.
Compare (

Inline Image:
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/3244/rampillar4fsmall.pngThe way this texture is used, this just doesn't work as a drop-in replacement. The original is ambiguous enough that it looks OK when the entire main section (the section that isn't as wide as the capital and plinth in your version) is placed onto a square surface. Those same square surfaces just look wrong with this texture. ((

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7199/r19temp4f.pngThe pattern at the centre of this looks like Celtic knotwork in the original, rather than a flowery pattern.

Don't know if I should be posting here about these textures, but I'll probably just redo some of those textures when I get time again to get going on them. That crest was the first complex texture I ever attempted, and I made quite a bit of progress in my own skill just from the evolution of that single texture from first to last. Looking back on it, it's actually better than I remembered though. I'm much better at drawing and airbrushing freehand than I was then. It has too much of a shadow right around the border giving the illusion of it sticking out.
But I'm kind of embarrassed that I even posted that last one with the knotwork, or the metal one on the previous page. They look pretty crummy. Even the texture of the two statues needs the arms changed around a bit. Their arms are too short.

Well, if you do find yourself with enough spare time to give some remakes a go, feel free to post them, and we'll give feedback. There are instructions on how to get at all the original Thief textures in one of the earlier posts in this thread, if you don't know how.

Here or the other thread, I guess it doesn't really matter where you post it.

The banners should be embroidered and with piping, don't you think, maybe even gilded or with metallic thread and stained? A lot of the fan-made banners look like spray-painted or airbrushed canvas, or at least like color was applied and even the cloth itself was never dyed.

Oh great, yet another thread that should be on the TEG board. :p

No, the point of this post is to get folk involved in this HUGE undertaking who are graphics artist types but not DromEder types. These are folk who don't visit TEG but who can contribute their artistic talents to completing a canonically correct high resolution enhancement package for terrain textures.

True. Although it all factors into Thief editing, so ultimately there should be some sort of mega-thread for all these texture projects popping up at the moment.
EDIT: Has whitefantom been around in awhile? That mask texture is AMAZING. :D
