Hey, guys. I have just downloaded the demo version of Thief Gold.
When I downloaded it, I tried running the setup file. It gave me an error. Then I set the compatibility mode "Windows 95". It worked. I have installed the demo successfully. I set the "THIEF.exe" compatibility to "Windows 95", too, and ran the game. When I clicked "Play Mission", it gave me a black screen... :tsktsk:
I have tried searching for info here. There were many questions about Thief Gold, but none of them fixed my problem...:erg:
Please help me... I really wanna play this game...

1. It might be good if you would give us your system specs
2. This sounds like a codec problem. Did you try the suggestions in the FAQ at the top of this forum?

Are you running on XP SP1 or SP2?

From the FAQGame Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played. If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 applied you may want to check out (

With the full version, I had to turn off visual themes in compatability as well. If that doesn't work, turn on the 256 colors limiter too.

I have Windows Service Pack 2 :erg: Oh, and I have tried disabling Visual Themes and Running in 256 color mode. The screen was still black after pressing "Play Mission", though I was finally able to see the intro movie of the mission...

I don't know if this option is availible in the TG demo, but try to change your rendering modus to software (if you have set it to hardware) or vice versa. Maybe the game has a problem with your card and/or its drivers...

try NOT using any compatibility modes.
