I want to buy Thief Gold, and I can get it for downloading online, but will I be able to patch that game so I can play on my windows 7?

If you download Thief Gold from GOG.com or Steam, you don't need to patch it to play on Windows 7 since it already does.
However you will most likely get a better gaming experience if you update it with TFix anyway.

Thanks a lot.

If you are using steam this is a great reference to use: (

The widescreen patch and the updated ddfix (1.5 or later) are pretty essential for running thief on modern computers, especially if you are using windows 7. :D
Also. If you are downloading Thief TDP/Gold or TMA from outside steam and you aren't using GOG I'm pretty sure you can add the games to your library on steam and play it.

^ Ignore the comment about DDFIX above. What you need is TFix, which uses NewDark. DDFIX is no longer relevant.
It all depends if you want the new textures that NewDark has to offer.

Texture packs can be loaded separately, which is how they they originally were.
If you want to play Thief with only visual upgrades, avoid NewDark.

My problem is solved. I was told to use tfix in order to play tag missions. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond.

I know jtr already said this for the most part, but just to be clear - NewDark does not offer any new textures, models, meshes, etc. Using
Tfix will give you the option to load some of this stuff in addition to installing NewDark, but NewDark by itself doesn't include any new assets.

I had some idea about NewDark not being responsible by itself for textures and the like but since I only use ddfix by itself, I really have little clue about Tfix. :erg:
