I was thinking that the one thing that would notch up the difficulty and immersion in Thief 1/2 is if the people you club and knock-out could wake up and continue their patrols. See, when a person is knocked out their brain is short-circuited so that they don't remember the last few minutes before losing consciousness. This is why accident victims often times don't remember what happened. So, an AI could wake up and simply not remember an intruder. I was thinking that it would be cool if KO'd AI could wake up after like 20 or 30 minutes, and maybe even be woken up if someone discovers them lying unconscious.
So, is it possible to implement this? I'm not familiar with how scripting in the Thief games work, but I think it would be so cool to have this implemented.

Just a slight realism issue there...this was before they discovered a pulse, so if someone was unconcious and wasn't showing signs of sleep ( a quiet sleeper could be mistaken), well, they would assume they're dead.
I'm not sure if it's within the engine though...

This has been discussed many times, both here and at DarkMod.
There are issues.
if you know that someone's going to wake up if you knock them out, then you're just going to kill them.
So the feature promotes killing, which is not really stealthy.
Also if you want to take them down silently, you'll blackjack them, then just stab their uconsious body so that they wont wake up again. This just would become a mundane procedure that must be performed every time.
The only way around it is to have a no-kill objective.

Every body in the game thinks an unconcious- unconshish- a knocked out person is a bloody mangled corpse anyway.

You have to just speak for yourself. There are lots of us Thief players that prefer to avoid killing in any case, and knowing that blackjacked guards might wake up somewhat soon wouldn't turn us homocidal

Agreed. I've always thought guards getting up from KO state would be neat, especially since I only ever blackjack them when they're directly in the way of something I want, so by the time they woke up I'd be long gone.
The only problem I could see with that gameplay wise would be guards waking up in some of the rathe odd positions/locations we can put them in, and how the AI would react to that :p

I try to only kill creatures. If I do kill a human AI it's usually because it has to be done (in 'Trial By Night' there's an archer you have to kill) or because I accidently clubbed them to death trying to knock them out in a fight. I feel bad even for the Ratmen, but in 'Escape!' & 'Undercover' I feel justified because them bitches took my eye!

I don't think you guys are understanding what Frikkinjerk was asking. I think he was trying to find out if there was the possibility of modding in guards that could wake from unconsciousness AT ALL, via scripting or other methods (in which case this thread would be better off in the Editors' Guild). Never mind the realism issues. Those would come after this was actually implemented. I'd like to know myself if it were possible, so would someone please respond?

A well designed game shouldn't require the player to force their own rules on themselves to make it fun.
Sure if you want to ghost or whatever to make it harder, go for it, but the game should be fun without this first.
As for the orignal question, I can't answer it directly, but I can say that an alternative exists if you're willing to wait. DarkMod is based on Doom 3, which is as easy as hell :ebil: to mod.

To re-assert (if thats even a word) can you mod guards to wake up after KO?
Kind of like zombies when they don't remember you killing them. Again.
