Wednesday, October 17 - Canada leagalises recreational Marijuana.
Finally.
Even though the (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Dain_Commission_of_Inquiry_into_the_Non-Medical_Use_of_Drugs) Le Dain Commission recommended de-criminalising pot in 1972, pressure from for profit policing and the prison industrial complex in the USA, discouraged Canadian governments from acting on the report.
While this is a milestone for Canada, the devilish details have created a legal and regulatory mess, with individual provinces and municipalities weaving a web of red-tape around the gray economy of pot retailing. Some provinces have no brick and mortar shops at all, others only have a few. BC, the biggest supplier of legal and illegal weed to Canadians, only has ONE actual store. Online stores are the only reliable source for most people.
And then there's the questions of public consumption, nuisance smoke, driving while impaired, work-place restrictions etc. etc. etc.
It's a bit of a shit show but hopefully, after every body has done chilling and the smoke clears, we can get on with... um... uhhh....

"driving while impaired"
There is guidance.

Aww...

There is "guidance" about pot and driving but there is no reliable technology for objectively measuring intoxication. Due to huge variations in how THC is metabolised by different people, even a reliable method of measuring blood levels could not be translated into a measure of intoxication.
Another issue is that present legislation promotes the most dangerous form of consumption, smoking. The sale of edibles remains illegal.

I'm surprised that edibles are illegal. It's strange how most of the developed world is so hostile to tobacco smoking, meanwhile we're starting to embrace pot smoking.

It's mostly concern about accidental consumption and consumption by children. We already had a case of a child hospitalised after scoffing a bag of laced gummie bears, carelessly left by her parents.
I am glad we finally got legalisation done. If we had done this in 1972, many of these complications would have been resolved by now. Also the USA would probably be more chill, having stoner neighbours.

I don't understand why Canada felt a need to legalize pot, when Canadians are already lazy and shifty.
(I'M JOKING! Everyone knows it's Newfies.)

Newfies aren't really lazy, they are just a half hour behind everyone else.

I knew I loved Canada. Congratulations.

Yesterday was a bit crazy, since I currently live on the campus of a university. Pot wasn't allowed on campus before (just a wild guess: but probably because it was illegal). As of legalization yesterday, it's still not allowed on campus. Nevertheless, it was an absolute haze just walking to class. There was an almost suffocating amount of smoke in the air with pretty much no policing about it. While I have no particular interest in being a user (especially since I'm below the age threshold of brain development for safe use, which is 25), generally I don't care about whether other people are doing it. Yesterday was different though. My god it was obnoxious. It's back to business as usual today, so it would seem.
