ok, tried out attaching the flame directly to the candle obj, and while this works, I can't say I enjoy messing with boxmin and boxmax too much. looking around a bunch of guides, I think I should be using vhots instead - but the thing is, when I particleattach the flame (-4777) to the vhot, it won't center itself in the vhot, but on the obj. funny thing is that when I douse it, and relight it, the flame will be suddenly placed properly.
there is something simple and obvious I'm missing, right?

I can explain the box min/max values. They allow you to say where the particles can be created. The values are relative to the coordinates of the object, so if all six of them are 0, all particles will be created in the centre. If you then change min X to -1 and max X to 1, the particles can be created anywhere along a 2 foot line running north/south. Change the min and max Y values to -1 and 1 and the particles can now be created anywhere in a 2x2 plane, with no height. Changing the Z values allows them to be created within a cuboid. Having separate min/max values allows the particles to be off centre.
If you're attaching them to an object, you need to see if it has any vhots. One of the NewDark commands is show_vhots, which shows them and their numbers so you can get the link data right. If the candle has a vhot, the Box min/max values can all be zero because the particles will be attached to the wick.
If there are no vhots the Type should just be Object. You will need to change the Box Min/Max values. Min Z and Max Z should be equal, just under half the height of the candle.
After you attach a particle it can help to select the object and click on Update.

yeah, I've figured that out, and as already mentioned, attaching to objects works fine - for the simple candles. the chandelier is a different story, I could really use the vhots there - but it just doesn't work properly, see the video.
pointing me to a FM with working candles would also help - I'm pretty good with my copy&paste.

It looks like you didn't link the flames directly to the archetype you created the chand and then 3 flames and linked them right?
Doing it like this doesn't automatically update the position of the flames. (only if you use DetailAttachement but I don't know if flames work with it correctly when you use arrows to TurnOff/On).
Easy solution: Move your chandelier with the numpad to any direction, flames get fixed, move it back or just press Update at the bottom of your DromedWindow.

yeah, that's the simple and obvious thing I was missing (gamesys not set up just yet). working fine now, thanks.

Might want to fix the thread title.

I just created a flaming chandelier in Dromed G with no issues. Besides the AnimLight side of things, I made the PA links between the flame and chandelier archetypes, then placed the chandelier in the mission.

yeah, it's working, don't worry.

I really had too much of that stuff today.
