Finishing Run...1) The bluish tint you used previously worked well for the books...just don't tint the boards with it.
2) Darken the overall appearance of the boards.
3) Remove the stickers from the books.
4) The "wispy hanging strands" are cobwebs...which are irregular broken-down spiderwebs.
EDIT:

The original cobweb variation is neither warm nor cool. It's a balanced neutral.
I realize that...yet, in this circumstance, the bluish tint is being used effectively to counterbalance the warmer coloration of Ren's original approach.

If you want him to remove the warm tint, then SAY THAT. Don't say to give it a bluish tint, because that means you want *shock, gasp* an image with a bluish tint. Which is wrong. Stop saying wrong things, crazypants.

Yeah, but the end result, at least as far as this texture is concerned, is that it looks more akin to shredded silk than cobwebs. If I wanted to, I could just draw out a bunch of full spider webs, or get a few premade web brushes, and go to town with it. But that wouldn't look nearly as good.

I'm not saying "wrong things", you're just not paying attention to what I said, silly-goose...I specifically used
warmer coloration and not
warmer tint, for a reason...meaning, I wasn't simply referring to
counterbalancing the tint...If he took away the warmer tint, that would not be enough to effectively counterbalance the
feel of Ren's coloration and tone vs. the original texture, as there are a lot more cooler whites, blues, and grays in the coloration of the original texture. So, by using the bluish tint, this simulates that difference, by reducing the warmth of Ren's originally warmer
coloration.
Keep in mind, I am suggesting this as a quick-fix, in order to capture the feel of the original...If a more accurate coloration was used in the first place, or if Ren was willing to do a re-coloration, there wouldn't be need to use the bluish tint in order to get a closer look and feel to the original.

Spiderwebs, beta 1:
Inline Image:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3018396/bookshelf_spiderweb.jpgI think I need to cover the tops of the books a little more, and maybe throw a few thick bunches into the far corners above the shadow layer. That might make it look a little better.

It looks more like scratched glass than cobwebs...make some of them bend, like in ZB's picture.

What? Putting stickers on everything, or not fixing obvious problems? Cuz both of them apply. :P
Well I meant the former, but the obvious problem part is just too depressing for me. I want to keep the anachronism of such a thing (stickers) in the world of Thief -- if merely for a laugh. But, yeah, you are right. :p
Also, I feel like it's only been a couple hours and we already have another page on this thread? Whelp, that's what happens when you are dealing with textures. :cheeky:
