Those differently-palettised textures are a confusing mess. I thought I'd converted the textures in that family to use the proper palette on my epterrain page - looks like I messed it up.
In either case, all of those colours looks a bit odd to me. I know that the second image very closely matches the original colours, but it still looks strange. It isn't clear to me what the material is meant to be - it's too purple for rust. Unless it was painted purple and then rusted!
I wonder if we could get away with a slight reinterpretation?
Indecisive: first I say it looks too different from the original, then I say it looks too close to the original...

The color doesn't bother me as much as it neither looks like stamped nor cast metal. The original you can forgive because of the low resolution, but the high poly version should make up its mind and look like one or the other.

yes the original looks less... perfect
i would say that its definitly a "metal casting" thingy (sorry ofr my english i hope you understand what i mean)
also it looks old
like realy old
if you look at the hammers you can notice missing/polished bits

The church one has to be made from scratch IMO. Resizing, bluring layers and hoping for the best won't do. You can use programs like inkscape to create shapes at the top of the resized an blurred original, and then export the image to pixel format and work from there. Or you can search for something similar in google images and use it as inspiration.
Also, in general, I'm not sure why you keep resizing those purple, pink or yellow "stains" from original textures. These are probably just compression artifacts or errors of palette conversion or results of extreme scaling-down. None of the devs would consciously use that, they were forced to do so because of the limitations at the time.

They are scratch built. Don't profess to know anything of how I work if you don't know me, let alone have the audacity to post your summation of my efforts in such a disparaging manner. "Hope for the best", you insult me. Open and honest critique is fine and very helpful, the feedback I receive is noted and acted upon and if it results in a texture that meets universal approval, then I'm a happy taffer. The textures I post are rarely the finished article, it's a process of investigation for the most part, reworking old textures isn't cut and dried. I'm not advertising my wares, nor seeking fame, all I ask is some honest, learned advice.
As for the patches. Rust, plain and simple. I've interpreted it as such given the setting of the texture.
I had actually thought the original was a painted panel with rust spots, initially. I agree it needs a re-work.

I'm sorry if I offended you, but this was an honest, open critique. Not based by knowing or not knowing the author (which is a bit naive to require such thing), but solely on the final result and the techniques that I know. I'm sorry if you took a lot of your time and effort to make this, but you can achieve similar results with gradual resizing, noise overlays and some creative layer-stacking, under 5 minutes or so.

I'm sorry Judith, but you were naive to post anything relating to my texture based on an assumption. If you had asked whether or not it was scratch built or I had just faffed about with the original then your critique would have been taken in good faith, something I won't be doing with your snide apology. Matter closed, Purgator bored now.

This texture appears as both carpet and wall covering in game. I had wanted to give it a woven appearance (tapestry?) but that would look out of place on a wall, especially in The Haunted Cathedral where it features quite prominently. Any ideas?
