I thought I'd fixed all those. Do you have a list of which ones I missed? I don't see anything obvious, apart from core_1/sandy.
I very nearly threw out all the DDSfiles and just went with pure PNG format, until I realised that the PNGs had a much larger filesize and it made no sense to waste space when the original files from you were in DDS format to begin with.
On closer inspection, it's not as bad as it first looked; I was confused by the tile factor-related weirdness. What I can see is core_1/sandy, core_2/cavedirt, and church/glass1. The hammer glass has
neither MaxEd's or my new replacements.
Well, seems like the thumbnail function isnt very useful at all. :nono: Go here: (

You need a more recent version of NewDark. It wasn't supported in the first release.
Man, it looks like I've had the 1.21 zip lying around for ages without actually remembering to install the version. Derp! :laff:
Also, vmaw/grassj1.

Should cut the mustard a bit better.

Funny how differently people fill in details in low res material. I've never interpreted that one as anything other than scuffed all to hell, especially considering the very specific contexts I've seen it appear in, such as Garrett's rat hole of an apartment. It
could be a bit shinier though, looking at the original again. Might tweak it if I find the time.
It is funny. I believe too the original seems scuffed and worn down, but your newer one is already too shiny and should be made to be darker and shabbier.
Oh wait, I'm referring to the Thief 1 version, not the Thief 2 image. It's peculiar how different they are

It is, isn't it. I was really expecting something more like this, it's more like what parquet flooring really looks like:

The gaps between boards and the roughness on yours just seems excessive to me. Oh well. It's not my call. Just my comment.

I think we should have two versions of those textures that are used in both T1 and T2. For example with the latest ep2.crf Cragscleft prison feels maybe too clean. When LGS compressed their textures to use T1 color palette they gave T1 its unique look thus I think it's very important to mimic the color compression effects too.

Where's your new replacement? I liked your old one better than MaxEd's (though I should really compare them ingame.)
Got it now.

Excellent! I spent some time trying to find some of those rugs (and also some of the Victorian wallpapers), but I didn't have much luck finding perfect matches.
I've been using Bing as opposed to Google image search for a lot of textures.
If you type persian/art nouveau/oriental/area rug into Bing, you'll get a staggering amount of suggestions in the right hand column related to specific carpet styles.
Regarding wallpaper, if you use the search terms Damask/Baroque/Arabesque wallpaper you get some very interesting results also.
It's a huge amount of info to sift through but I'm sure there are matches.
Failing that, I suppose we could have "spiritual" successors to certain Rug/Wallpaper designs for the sake of upgrading certain textures.
Edit: There are matches for some rug designs on these russian sites but very low-res, I just haven't followed up on them yet (nor have I thoroughly explored these sites, but they appear to be ok).
If anyone fancies a bit o' detective work..

I updated the .crf in the earlier post to add the changes since then.
(Edit: apart from the one mentioned in MaxEd's ninja post!)
For searching, I was trying to use reverse image search, but tineye.com rarely finds any results, and Google tends to find too many that are not that similar (though you can use a combination of reverse image search + search terms to narrow it down.)
For wallpaper, I don't think we really need to find exact matches, just something close enough that it can be tweaked into roughly the right shapes. But even that is hard find.

Search word "victorian flocked velvet wallpaper" works for many of the wallpapers in vicmXX families.

Nice find! With Google translator's magic I was able to find that some of the rugs in vrescor1 are isfahan rugs. Good site for information on carpets: (

Hi Nameless Voice. I remember you remade health potion, invisiblity potion some time ago to better fit the originals, but you never put it in Enhancement Pack. Why? Are there chances to see it?
