In Gamall’s Lair in Gamall's bedroom, I have moved the book to open a stone door leading to a balcony and a cutscene with Artemis. Then I find myself in a big room with balconies on the north and south sides. Under the balcony on the south side is a colonnade patrolled by two of Gamall’s golems. In the middle of the room is a table with a big map of the city, showing where the artifacts are.
I have read the journals here, snatched a portrait from the north balcony, picked up the Glyph of Unbinding, and destroyed the two golems. Now I am stuck.
There are no doors for exiting (how does Gamall get in and out?). But from posts I have read on this message board and according to a gamefaqs.com walkthrough, I should be able to climb either the east or west wall and get to the south balcony. I have jumped at these walls endlessly. I have loaded and reloaded numerously. But try as I might I just cannot climb these walls. (I do have the gloves of climbing, and I have been using them throughout the game.)
Can someone help me? Maybe you know of a no-clip code or a fly code. Anything that will get me out of this room!! :tsktsk:

The only way out is by climbing those walls to above the balcony then sliding over it. About the only thing I can say is to keep trying. Try all the walls until you find one that works.

Okay I'll try some more, but I tried like hell last night before posting my original plea for help. I believe this room must be visited to complete the game. Therefore I'm afraid this may be the end of the game for me.
If I make it out of the room, I'll say I've done so on another reply to this post. If I don't make it out this morning, I'll check the board later today and maybe tomorrow. Maybe by then someone will inform me of a code or some other way to get out, if there is one.:nono:

I finally made it.
I had tried lowering the resolution, reducing shadows to minimum, disabling bloom, and switching to third-person perspective. None of those worked.
I tried getting out without saving or loading while in the room. I succeeded in doing everything I needed to do in the room, but I failed to climb out.
I remembered that once when I tried to climb the west wall without killing either of the golems, the climbing gloves had come briefly into view and I had actually climbed a little, maybe a foot or so before a golem whacked me to death. Then I tried again without having killed the golems, and I could not climb. I tried numerous times without killing the golems, and still I could not climb. I got the familiar temporarily static frame showing Garrett in the climbing mode, but without actually climbing.
This morning after trying to climb again and again without success, I thought of the possibility that I needed to take a hit from a golem before I could climb. That seemed very unlikely, but I had nothing else to try. So I read a journal and picked up the glyph of unbinding, which gave me the two new objectives I needed to complete the mission. Without attacking either golem, I tried to climb. A golem whacked me hard, and…Lo and behold! I was climbing! I made it to the balcony, barely, with only a fraction of my health left, but I did not die.
At that point I made sure to save.
Suspenseful, yes. But too much trouble. At least now I’ll probably be able to finish the game.:)

How odd. I killed both statues/golems before ever even trying to climb out, and had no issues. If I have learned nothing else since I began playing the Thief series, it is that all of the games are buggy as hell.

That's really strange. I've made it many times without getting touched. I wonder what's causing that. Are there any other areas you think you should be able to climb that you can't in this or any other level?

I had the same problem, that was fixed by enabling V-synch.

Believe me, it's true. I had a great deal of trouble getting out of there, and--as I described--I made it out by the hair of my chinny-chin chin (or whatever that phrase is).
I have just finished the game, and yes there was one other area. You know the secret tunnel that Grandma's sons dug to access the museum? Well, I went down there before I got the relevant objective. There was no glyph farther along in the tunnel, so I could not crawl into the museum. Fair enough. The trouble was I could not climb back up to the courtyard. Supposing I would eventually get an objective to go down there, I just forgot about that whole area for the time being and I reloaded a save from before I went down.
Once I got the objective, I easily climbed out.
I should have been able to climb out before I got the objective. There was a rust mite down there that I wanted to exterminate.:cheeky:

Skynet, I've finished the game, but for my personal future reference would you--or anyone else--please tell me how to enable V-synch?:p

I think it is in the options menu, and should be in your videocard setup menu.
