My computer recently crashed completely and I had to replace the hard drive. I have now got everything back together but am unable to play fan missions. I did a clean install of Thief and updated to 1.18 then installed Darkloader. All appeared to by fine so I copied a fan mission and attempted to load it but all that happens is it loads the original starting mission for Thief. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Darkloader to no avail.
Any suggestions to resolve this greatly appreciated.

By attempting to copy a fan mission, do you mean by letting the Darkloader do the extracting for you and that way it fails to play them then when you choose to?

Clean up of files
Occasionally you will find that you'll start a new mission and run into problems. For instance, you might load one mission and when you start to play you'll see something that indicates you're going to be playing a mission other than the one you selected or you might experience crashes.
Sometimes DarkLoader or GarrettLoader fails to clean up the Thief folder while uninstalling an FM, so you might have to do it manually:
Install the original game missions and delete any remains of the following folders in your main Thief folder:
Pal
Bitmap
Books
Fam
Intrface
Obj
Mesh
Strings
Motions
but don't delete the movies, crfs or the res folder!
Next, reinstall the mission you want to play and it should load properly.
Thanks to SinisterShadow and Yandros for the above information.
If the above message to you feel unrelevant or not the solution for problem please include specifics about how you have it set up and what your system specs are, you might want to try using tafferpatcher to update your game to New Dark 1.21 as well and retry.

Ghostly
Thanks for this. I think it was something I didn't do. Its taken a while to get my machine back together so I'd forgotten you had to install the missions. When I I realised this I installed the game. Everything seems to working now as it should.
So I'm off to the dark world of Thief.
Many thanks

The way you're phrasing things is a bit odd - you don't need to install missions at all. They (the zip files) should sit in a directory on your PC and then you should point Darkloader in their direction using the Setup button.
Also, you'll want to upgrade Thief to version 1.21 using (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher, as Ghostly mentioned. If you stay at version 1.18, there are many missions released over the past couple of years that won't work.

Actually, I think he means that he was forgetting to install the mission in Darkloader. You do need to "install" missions in the actual mission loader (Darkloader, FM Sel, etc.).
