And she's marrying me! My wonderfully talented Holythief!
(If I'm really good she won't show you the pictures of me in the Hammerite gear, the cowl makes me look like a particuarly evil pixie!)
Andre: I hang around in dark places looking for trouble.
Granny: There's a nasty name for people like that.
Andre: Yes. It's 'Policeman'.

I don't use plastic. It's plate armour and even in the 14th to 18th century it was not unheard of painting armour. I tried just the hammer painted on the steel but it looked drab.
Painted armour, yeah, that's quite possible although I've only heared of painted helmets before. With the hourglass armour (I didn't check it out earlier, but apparently the term was right) I thought of that one:

...i.e. without this...riding slit (sorry, didn't want to read through this pretty textile dictionary right now).
Now I'm really tempted to make a good photo of my blue Garrett-like jerkin.

You should post the picture of your Jerkin mate, that's what it's all about!
The Armour looks like display only, the "Hourglass" style is believed to have been derived from the exaggerated artwork of the period. (The artists drew the men with impossibly tight waists as the fashion at the time was for small waists and padded shoulders.) The practical armour, (That which has survived) is of a broader, and coarser, appearance.
Lots of armour was painted, especially that of the ordinary soldiers or footmen who did not have squires to clean it. Painted armour is less prone to rust and it was a cheap way of ensuring everyone on your side knew who you were in the heat and confusion of the melee, (Cloth 'Livery' was expensive!) It was normally the duty of the Lord to supply the livery, but in the 1400's war had been almost continuous for 100 yrs in Europe and money was getting scarce. Many ex-soldiers formed mercenary. 'Free Companies' where each man provided his own equipment.
(I shall stop now, preaching! Sorry Jack, must be the Cider!)

So, Welcome to Mr Pherry Cheap's Costume Rental.
Well, it's somehow like better LARP equipment, but after all Thief has undeniable fantasy elements and I didn't spend a lot of money just for a small hobby which hasn't the justification of historical re-enactment or something. Now here's what I've made out of cutscenes, artworks and a few references to late-medieval fabric buttons.
Level one, Garrett's standard clothes, although the cheap vambraces don't look like everyday outfit:

http://s7.directupload.net/images/080907/temp/pucdnbha.jpg(on some pictures he has a kind of black section with two strange buckles on them around the waist, but I left them out due to a lack of ideas what to make of them)
Level two, the cape with the scarf thing over it, perfect to imitate the cape on the back, which is however not bound by the blue belt (I haven't got the big oval buckle yet).

http://s5.directupload.net/images/080907/temp/jd7hzyub.jpg Level three, weapons, hood and a grim expression in the face which had to be removed due to ...well, we're thieves, aren't we?

http://s2.directupload.net/images/080907/temp/z32xbcb6.jpgThe quiver is my own and not really fit for Thief (xxcoy has a better one), but just for the photo... The bow is a Samick Korean Horsebow with almost 60lbs (kept in a bowcase on the back, the only reasonable way to carry a strung bow AFAIK), the sword is Constantine's with an amateurish high-middle-ages-styled scabbard with an apparently not appropriate fastening, since I always assume that the medieval parts of Thief are late-medieval, thus it should be a small brass buckle, but well...
The pants are (also high medieval) tights/chausses for my re-enactment project. I could have used simple black woolen trousers but everyone would have done that. Plus, I think these tight...tights look a little more elegant. Ah, and Garrett's boots are originally higher, but I cannot do everything. :erg:

Very cool Beleg :thumb: . However, chausses are armour for the legs, you're wearing split leg hose. Have you ever thought of single hose and points with cod piece? Most of my guards and guard captain wear them (Stops them showing off their knickers). I have a picture of him somewhere.
