Hmm... I'm using Thief Gold, if that matters.

Thief: The Director's Cut, which is a Thief Gold distribution labeled "Thief: The Director's Cut" with an installer named "Thief Gold Installer". The mind boggles.

10 years later I was finally able to play this mission. I used the same copy of the game, but on a new computer, patched with TFix, and with FMsel instead of Darkloader. Worked perfectly. Finished on Normal in 48 minutes with 1147 of 1447 total loot. I probably could have gotten the rest, but did not feel like exploring all areas of the sewers.
The beginning of The Careless Hand is promising: The town square is quite detailed and leads to a few interesting locales: an inn, a foundry, a butcher, a grand townhall. The architecture and the level of detail is impressive for such an early fan mission. There are also a few well-written journal entries to read. One about "stench caverns" made me chuckle. Where the mission falls apart is towards the end: The sewers are a mostly empty maze and not very interesting to explore. After 10 minutes in there, I just wanted to mission to end. When I finally found the Talisman of Fire, I felt relieved.

If you don't play on expert, you won't see a big part of the map.
