Supposedly we'll see what this game is actually about tomorrow: (
http://www.carnicchronicles.com/)
Apparently it's an arty and unusual UDK-based adventure game created by a guy who thinks that one person constitutes a "studio". (Yes, I mock, but merely in jest. ;) )
Probably it will at least be worth a glance.

Wait, there are other indie games than artsy games?
Also how did you find out about this? The page just has a logo. How do those things become popular before there's even any content to show (I am genuinely curious since I am working on some similar small projects on my own. But no, they're not artsy).

It was on Blues News. I am not sure why he decided to post it, since it does seem awfully obscure/unproven.

Meh.

Sounds interesting. But with nothing to show but a text blurb, there isn't much to talk about.

Yep, hence my meh.

"Meh"
You know, I like that. I think I'm going to post that on my wall above my computer. Always a good thing to keep in mind.
I've just posted a few concept art pieces that you can check out on the official site.
Is there anything you guys are looking for in particular? I'm currently just posting as I come up with stuff, but if there is something I can try to focus more on that.

Hey hey, cool to see you posting here! I mentioned in my previous post, I have some of my own projects I am working on, so this is all very interesting and relevant to me. Definitely looking forward to consistent dev updates.
Also, I havent read the website fully, but are you developing it all by yourself or as a team? Whats your role if you are a team?
I'm primarily a programmer and designer at heart when it comes to games, so i'm most curious about your tech (which I guess is going to probably be pure UDK with some small tweaks as neccessary) and gameplay / story elements.
The Master Goblin on 20/3/2011 at 06:10
Glad to answer.
I'm a one man operation so I will be handling most things myself. It's possible I will be buying some assets and/or contracting to help fill in the gaps.
As for my tech, the game will be built using UDK. Currently it's the best option (especially for me) out there, though Unity is a close second. I hear that Crytek will be releasing something similar to UDK which will be interesting, but all vaporware until it comes out (the irony of this is not lost on me).
Concerning story elements, that's pretty much what the game will be composed of. Truth be told I could easily draft this up as a movie, novel, or comic book. While I believe that in the end it would be a good story, I feel that it can be much more powerful told through the lens of interactivity.
As for gameplay, some elements that you will see are: interactive cut scenes (I like to call these cut-less scenes), a non-fatal variant of quicktime events (basically the game will not stop if you fail), a complex journal system, an equally complex difficulty and "hint" system, "atmospheric" elements, a fairly dynamic island, and a loaded protagonist personality.
Man I hate bullet points. Anyway, this will be wrapped up in a 3rd person POV that while somewhat typical of action / adventure games it will not look like your typical action / adventure game.
All of this and more I will be detailing as I go on my site. Some of it I have not even fully hammered out yet. Plus I have to decide very soon which features are a must and which ones I can let slip if needed.
I do have a lot more incoming, but hopefully this at least partially answers your quasi-question.

Goblin,
You got a news blurb on BluesNews, which attracted me to your site. That's pretty cool in itself. The problem was that there wasn't much on your site to see. Some nice artwork, some interesting promises. So I came back on the indicated day, and what do I discover? Nothing. Yes, you share a great deal of words, but I returned to your site with the hopes of seeing your game, what I did see basically amounted to nothing. Anyone can make a website promising to be working on an amazing title, fill it with fascinating words alluding to a deep and innovative understanding of plot and gameplay concepts, but unless there's some evidence that there's more going on than hyperbole, the reaction you've earned is indeed a resounding "meh".
I am being harsh, yes. But I think you're attempting to do something I am going to be quite interested in, and I will be very disappointed if all you do is gab in a self congratulatory fashion about how revolutionary your work is going to be. You're making a game. A far better way to unveil it would be to say almost nothing, and present a gameplay video (yes, gameplay video, not just an art walkthrough) when it's ready to be shown.
Just my humble opinion. You know.
I want your project to be bloody awesome, but I really don't want to be strung along either. So I offer you an honest and sincere good luck, and I do hope that you impress us.
