'cat vs. mouse - by pavlovscat

How do you mean? The only time that's a problem for me is when I need to adjust the mouse sensitivity after reinstalling, or I lift the mouse off the surface, but that's not what you're talking about.
By the way. It's just cool that you can play the games. 'Nuff said.

No, I literally have no sense of direction. (That's one of the things that MS has done to me.) Just the smallest movement too much with the mouse and I actually need to think about which way I'm looking. It's like my brain can't keep up with the movement.
I get lost in Wal-Mart. I'll walk around in circles for 45 mins - can't find the doors or even a wall - until I call my hubby to come find me. When I use the keyboard, my brain syncs with my fingers somehow and it works fine. That is also why a compass is so important to me when playing.

Ah! So then the next question (like one might get during show-and-tell) is:
Are there any tricky spots to get to or difficult maneuvers for you related to playing by keyboard? I wonder if there are level design issues that come up. If not, then that's great!

I haven't noticed anything. I can jump, climb, sneak, blackjack, shoot arrows, move pretty much how ever is needed. I have played every FM without finding anything that I "couldn't do" as far as movement.

I do use the mouse, but my left hand uses the NumPad instead of the standard area of the keyboard. I use only keys on the NumPad for most everything except 'R' to drop and function keys. Consequently, I never use Walk - I only run (NumPad8) or creep (NumPad5). Just like you and your no-mouse setup cat, whatever works for you is what's best! :D I can't imagine trying to change my control style or bindings now after 7 years.

The personal key-bindings led to a bummer moment when I visited the friend who introduced me to Thief back in 1999. I recalled to him the story of that introduction of 6 years prior, as a lead-in to how I'd since played TDP and TMA all the way through, and had grown to like it very much. He asked me if I'd like to play it and got it running for me. After two seconds at the controls, I realised I would not be able to play without setting all the key-bindings. I suspect, that if Thief had been wildly popular, I'd have my personal bindings on my flashdrive so I could play at a friend's house.:laff:

Totally.
I mean, I used to carry around my Quake config file(s) on a floppy... (*shakes head*)
That was incidentally the first FPS where I forced myself to use a mouse. And then I forced myself to play with higher and higher sensitivities. And then I mastered rocket jumping. And then I let fire rain down upon the unjust.
Rocket jumping is not recommended for keyboard users, by the way.
Thief is a lot more forgiving. Unless one plans on playing a swordfighter Garrett - which is kind of possible - one doesn't even need the circle strafing, which used to be so crucial in deathmatches. That element is possibly toned down in the gameplay of modern FPSes. I wouldn't know, somebody would have to confirm that for me.
I tried to find a forum thread about weird keybind files for T1/2, but no luck. I wonder how well a gamepad would lend itself to those games?

Keybinds: Man! I swear I saw a thread where people shared their keybind configurations. I can't find good key words to search it out.:erg:

I hate it when that happens. :p
By the way, I imagine that with a 3rd party key mapper, one would be able to make use of the NumLock key on the numpad. So objects could be dropped from there, too.
