My Windows 7 computer imploded for the second time this year. I have just reinstated everything but am unable to get Darkloader working with my newly reinstalled thief2. I can see all my fan missions but when I select and run one it comes up with the user account control window and when I click OK I get the Thief 2 has stopped check online. I think I missed a stage. I need the modified thief2 executable so I don't need the disc. Can anyone help please?

Couple of quick questions:
-Are you using Tafferpatcher to install and patch Thief?
-What directory did you install Thief to, was it /Program Files?

Did you download a new Darkloader file or use a copy of a DL folder from an external HD?
The installer does not get saved in the DL folder so if you use the darkloader.exe from a saved copy, DL loads but can't play FM's

I suspect that Brethren has the right answer. You cannot install Thief in the Program Files folder on any windows system from Vista on. Just install it in another folder such as C:\Games

Brethren:
No, I haven't got around to Tafferpatch yet. The directory I installed into was c:\games\thief2.
Fortuni:
It was a new Darkloader file -- I couldn't find the old one. Everything went!!!!
Tannar: The path is C:\Games\Thief2
Thanks for the advice guys. I think I might uninstall everything and start again. There won't a problem with Thief but I can't find anything about uninstalling Darkloader so it gets rid of everything. Any suggestions?
In addition, when I first installed Darkloader (all those years ago) I'm seem to recall it was a special download I got from somewhere especially for darkloader. Does this make sense?

If you start over with a new install, use Tafferpatcher. It will update your Thief to the latest version of New Dark, fix things in general, add visual/audio patches if you choose, and basically makes the game much more stable and playable. New Dark also has a built in mission loader (FMSel) that you can use instead of Darkloader.
Not sure exactly what you're saying about the Darkloader files, but you can get them here: (
http://www.darkloader.net/)

Brethren, Fortuni, Tannar
I checked the location of the original installation (I have windows.old still on the machine) and it originally installed into Program Files (x86). I could try redirecting Darkloader there maybe. At the moment its in c:\games\ but this is installing off the disk with no modifications. Anyway I've been buxxxxing around with this computer all day to get things running and I've had enough (I've also opened a bottle of wine and that's never a good idea around computers). So I'm signing off now because I can't see (nothing to do with the wine -- its staring at the screen all day) and will have another go tomorrow.

A quick update to everyone who came to my aid. I've got everything back. I haven't played anything yet (still sorting out mess) but I've loaded a couple of missions and everything seems to be there. However. I have lost any saved games I had. Which means I'll have to play them all again!!! Yippee.
Thank you all for you help, suggestions and support.
