Chain Project 2... - by nicked

I've been speaking to Vlad, and I'm just throwing this out there to gauge interest in a chain project 2. Please use this thread to say whether you'd be interested in participating, or any ideas you may have.
In case you don't know, the chain project was a fan mission designed by many different authors. Each author made a section of the level, and then passed it to the next person until it became so big it had to be released! :cheeky:
If we do a Chain Project 2, one thing it could benefit from is more structure, so there is a clear goal in sight for when it gets finished, that sort of thing.
Some ideas that have come up:
- Using an abandoned mission from the vaults as a base
- Starting with a "hub" area and giving each person a corridor off that area to work with.
- Creating a community-made base - anyone who was interested could submit a small room (perhaps 32x32x32) at the start, and these rooms would be multibrushed together to form the base
If there's enough interest in this, I'd like to get it kicked off pretty soon, so I'm very interested in any feedback.

The idea good, indeed, very good, but the authors will queue up , because of when they come next? And where are the Dromed limits? Here will be need on a serious cooperation.

Yeah, I guess the best way of doing it is:
Author 1 --> Organizer (who makes sure it all works) --> Author 2 --> etc.
If each person had a week for their section, it'd be enough time to put together a small, fun area without anyone having to wait too long for their turn.

The original used a waiting in line system, when I got their conrtibution. I checked it out to see if it portalized >pathfind and tried to break thier new section. If I couldn't I then notified the next person in line. There were several "Im busy right nows" No problem, they were sent to the back of the line. Others got back in line several times (The_dude)
One authors whos idea I liked was when they took thier turn they looked it over then reserved a space with an area brush and gave it back to me. That way their working on it didnt slow anyone down.
This will work, and the proof is Chain Project "1"

Another thing you might want to consider, before starting chain project 2, is that currently several fm authors might be working on and/or thinking about the pirate contest - I really want this contest to be a success, and don't want authors to get mixed up between two projects at the same time.
However, it's also possible that the chain project 2 could be a good "break" for authors from their other projects, if each area of the chain takes only a few weeks to complete. That way authors can temporarily divert their attention from their bigger projects, do their part in the chain project, and get back to their bigger projects.
Personally, - Yes, I am interested in a Chain Project 2.

I won't be participating in the pirate contest, so I'm in.

If each author has a week (and, as Vlad said above, that week's position is infinitely flexible when people are too busy) I can't see it interfering with other missions/contests. If someone's too busy because of a contest mission, they can duck out of the queue, maybe to rejoin later!
Anyone got an opinion on how best to start the mission (i.e. which "base" idea mentioned in the OP to go with)?

Well, a start has been made on the Chain Project 2! The base is the stunning Heist Society 2 (an abandoned mission by AsyluM), and there's already some great stuff in there! If you want to get involved, PM me here, or send me an email!
Now we're looking for some more folks to contribute! All you have to do is get your Dromed cap on, and start building - anything from a simple room to a vast labyrinth! Some ideas that were implemented into the first chain project:
* An abandoned watchtower by the sea, complete with zombie pirates
* A monster made entirely out of zombie heads
* An underground fortress under siege by craymen
* A bar with some light refreshments
* Frogbeast eggs that spawned guards ready to fight each other
* A giant cannon that you could use to blow open a gate
...and loads more!
We're looking to make CP2 into a similar wild and fun ride with different imaginative stuff around every corner! You don't need any great artistry, so newbies can feel free to join in! All you need is a great little idea! Here's some screenies of some of the weird and wonderful stuff already in Chain Project 2:

Should be really fun if we can get some more volunteers! I think a lot of people are busy with contest missions at the mo though...
