Thief-thecircle.com was the main source of all Thief related news and goodness. Unfortunately the key word in that last statement would be the "was". For many years now the Circle has been the homepage for taffers all over the world. It followed any and all updates regarding the progress on the future of the Thief series, had the most comprehensive database of FM entries, was host to many Thief artworks and fanfics, and was the heart and center of the TTLG network.
Now what is left is an outdated and clunky FM database that essentially is a quick description followed by a link to thiefmissions.com. The FM reviews that are hosted on the Circle are now easily accessible at southquarter.com. Essentially, the Fan Missions are just not practical or necessary for upkeep on the Circle. However, this does not signal the end of the Circle! There is still plenty of news that should be kept updated, and plenty of discussion that keeps ThiefGen the best damn place to be in the TTLG network (no bias here  :p ). What I am proposing is the revival and renewal of the Circle. Once again thief-thecircle.com will be the home of all that is Thief and a shelter for all the taffers of the world!
But this can only happen if the Circle is providing the news that people want to be reading. So what I'm asking here is for input as to what you would like the Circle to be providing for you? Would you like a weekly column with interviews of FM makers? Would you like news posts highlighting the hot discussions of ThiefGen? Would you like ZylonBane Quotes of the Week (TM)? We would love to hear all suggestions that you can offer for how to make the Circle a better place. If you feel that you can contribute to the Circle in some way, feel free to PM myself, Digi, or any other of the TTLG staff and we can discuss it. Here's to a brighter future for the Circle!

Some developmental news or journals would be nice. This would still have to do with FMs, but there simply is not any news. That's pretty much all you can have without turning The Circle into a pre-teen party.

Yes, and that part was a joke. :p

I really like the interviews with fm designers idea. That way I won't have to bombard my favorite author with pms asking for any new news of his/her fm or campaign in progress. I would definately like to see what other authors are up to without bugging them.
(Plus I wouldn't mind contributing to that myself :p )

Of course, the questions are, who will contribute regularly, and who will be responsible for maintaining content at the new "Circle?"
I do go there for reference purposes, but since I can't play the FM's yet (I don't have a system with the right requirements), I go there mainly for the archived sights, sounds, and texts. Eventually, I hope to begin digging into DromEd and T3Ed. As long as all the information on the old "Circle" is still available somewhere, readily accessible, I'll be generally happy with the changes.
If there are articles waiting to be written and in need of a home on a server, then let's get 'em out there. I'm still waiting to read the CoSaS rewrite, and some of the ambitious FM projects.
A "Must-Read Thread" section would be okay by me, if doable. We all have our favorite forums and, often, we will miss out on a great thread somewhere else. Threads of the day, the week, the month, and/or the year would be great, but I suspect it wouldn't be popular enough or feasible to keep up (Real Life interruption).:erg:
Is there a member of TTLG that has the time, on a regular basis, to keep a relatively steady stream of fresh material flowing into "The Circle?" If so, then I would support that member's efforts and visit often, instead of merely checking a walkthrough or listening to an mp3 once a month (although it's really important to me to be able to do that as things come up).:thumb:

Maybe I should clarify some things. :)
We're not talking about a new circle, more a revived one. One that's relevant and worth visiting again for more than archived media. The site itself, existing content, and so forth, wouldn't be changing.
And don't you mean the COT rewrite?

I would suggest doing a (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mashup_%28web_application_hybrid%29) mashup
of some other content from other thief sites.
I would be happy to provide a feed from the GarrettLoader site of FM scores and I'm sure Redface or Brother Renalt would be interested in some RSS feeds for new reviews.
The way I see it the more integration with other sites (although not reliant integration as we all know servers are not up 100% of the time) the more new information is available. The sad fact is that people are busier more now than a few years ago so the ability to maintain things is difficult, the more things can be made simpler to provide new info, the better.

Well I definitely think fan missions are what is left of the Thief universe. Even if you don't host reviews or the files themselves, I feel like mod news should be replacing Thief (TM) news. Upcoming, high profile mods, especially big community efforts, should be in the spotlight and releases should be announced so people can go find the goods when they come out. I'd personally like to see a mod revival. It saddens me to see great work done and only a few handfuls download them. Maybe some fanfare would help. Mod of the month/week?
A section to profile 'thiefy' games might be nice too (Splinter Cell, Assassin, Oblivion, etc.) That's at least a pretty frequent forum request it seems lots of people want to know.
