Choice of four. Picking one. - by Digital Nightfall

There's four titles I have had my eye on, but I'll only be getting one. They are;
Fallout 3
Deadspace
Riddick: Dark Athena
Zeno Clash
I don't care much about the DRM controversy so that's not a real factor in the choice. Price is - naturally Zeno Clash has the price bias in its favor, and Riddick the most points against it. On the other hand, noone has played the finished version of ZenoClash so that's a bit of a gamble. I didn't put FEAR 2 on the list because, even though I liked the demo, in the end, I'd rather play any of the four listed than it. Too bad none of those four have demos out. I feel like Fallout 3 is an inevitable purchase, but if I don't get it now I could just as reasonably pick it up a year from now. For the others, I doubt I'll care a year from now.
Another option is to reinstall STALKER and give it a fourth try, but after three attempts to play it and never getting into it, I don't know if another try will do any good.
So if I only played one new game this year, which should it be? :)

I suggest you buy Dead Space now and wait for the FO3 DLC's bugs to be ironed out before you buy it. As someone who just played through it without the DLC I can tell you that the DLC seems like it would make it a more complete game, particularly Broken Steel.
I love Stalker, but I feel like Fallout 3 is what Stalker wishes it could've been.

Dead Space has dropped a fair bit in price since release, I'd say pick that up. Sweet game, probably the best survival horror title of 2008.

FO3 is the only one of those I've played. It's great. If you're only gonna play one game this year make it FO3, as it might take you most of the year to finish it.
Judging from the reviews, if you've already played Escape from Butcher Bay you might wanna give Dark Athena a miss. The new episode apparently isn't very good.

Also, if you liked the original FEAR, get the sequel. While it has a few things that are irritating, they don't really do much damage to what is really one of the better games I've played the last couple years.

Dead Space is a great game but it won't last you even remotely as long as Fallout 3, which is a superb game as well.
Can't comment on the latter two but neither strike me as games with an incredible amount of content or replay value.
If you're only going to buy one game for the rest of the year, go with FO3. The game should last you for quite some time and that's even before you start applying mods to it. Also if STALKER didn't hook you (like it didn't hook me), Fallout 3 might be your particular flavor.

Fallout 3 is killing my backlog. I'm on my first playthrough with a ton of things to do still and I'm ready to roll another character and go through it again once I'm done.

Dethtoll is right, but if you start playing FO3 now, by the time you actually get to the point where the DLC will be useful, it will almost certainly be released.

Fallout 3 is what I'd choose, but a word of caution if you do choose it. You have a 50% chance of the game working without a flaw and a 50% chance of it being a steaming pile of bugs, crashes and other bullcrap. You won't notice this until you've played for a couple of hours. After that if the game still runs fine than you got lucky. Else... well, you'll lose some brain cells while being stressed in the search for fixes for said crashes. Then you probably won't give a damn anymore. Good luck on the gamble.
Dead Space was kind of boring and lame for me, not to mention that I still don't like the way they implemented the camera view. It's like they tried making it scarry by limiting your field of view, which I just find retarded since it stops being scarry and becomes the biggest annoyance I have ever seen in a game. Other than that, well it has nice gore and limbs fly like there's no tomorrow. A lot of people liked Dead Space as it is so maybe you will too.
I found F.E.A.R 2 to be pretty good. You get what you pay for: a shooter with tense moments here and there. The pace is more chaotic than it's predecessor and sometimes it feels like you're in a very fast car race, switching from shooting soldiers to apparitions and back to soldiers in a matter of seconds. This can be fun, but some don't like it. A lot feel that storywise it doesn't deliver, but personally I think it's just nitpicking.
If S.T.A.L.K.E.R hasn't gripped you yet than it probably still won't even if you replay it. I say you should give it another chance some other time, maybe after a couple of months or even a year. That is, unless you find something else to keep you entertained and you'll feel that you won't care enough to try it again. :)
I haven't played Riddick and Zeno.

This surprises me. In terms of tone, atmosphere, gameplay, they're very different if you ask me. To my mind, it's like saying, "I love
Operation Flashpoint, but I feel like
Call of Duty 4 is what
Operation Flashpoint wishes it could've been."
Digital Nightfall, have you played
Operation Flashpoint? If you have, and if you've enjoyed the game, chances are you'll get into
Stalker. There might be mods out there that address the things that keep you from getting into the game. It definitely took me a while - as it did with
Thief, which I only got into after trying the "Life of the Party" demo four or five times.
