I'd love to see someone do an open-world Bethesda style game in that sort of setting with the RPG elements, questing, dungeons, etc. but with Stalker's gunplay.
I will grant you that FO3's gunplay was kind of... lacking.

Dead Space is great, but it will only take you 10 hours to finish it.
That doesn't really say much. For example I have put at least two times more hours than that into Dead Space so far, it has been well over 4 months since I bought it and I'm still on my first runthrough.
It pretty much boils down to how much time you have for gaming and what kind of a player you are. I'm an extremely slow player (not only do I take my time to explore and backtrack in search for stuff, but I simply don't rush through the Ishimura like I'm Rambo with god mode on) and don't have so much free time as I used to either, so naturally I will get quite a bit of juice out of "short" games like Dead Space. ;)

My experience with Fallout 3 was one of increasingly frequent crashes, beginning with one system restart every two or three hours to one system restart every ten to fifteen minutes once I was above level 18. I still stuck with it and finished the main quest. :D

As I mentioned earlier, it took me 3/4 of the game until I realized that about 85 percent of the crashes was caused by one unsuspicious, but ultimately conflicting mod... And I was swearing at Beth's address before like crazy. :o
So, a lesson for everyone who uses mods : check them twice before you jump to early conclusions.

When I first tried FO3 it was fucking unplayable. But then 3 things happened: 1) the patch came out 2) I learned about disabling ffdshow (incidentally, morrowind.exe and oblivion.exe were already in the exclude list, himm I wonder) and 3) I realized that my drivers were bullshit and causing problems in other games so I reverted. Anybody who's experiencing crashes may want to look into the above 3 things as well as conflicting mods.

I'm leaning heavily towards getting Dead Space now and then asking for Fallout 3 for my birthday in August. :thumb:
Thanks for the input, guys. Steam will probably put Zeno Clash up for even more dirt cheap before the end of the year, and I can always pick up Riddick sometime down the line if I find myself still interested.
Now the question is... Steam (download - $40), Amazon (mail order - $37), or Walmart (drive into town - $40)?

I say Walmart. Even when I buy Valve games that require Steam it's always in a box, just so I can say it's there. I never use it again because I can just reinstall over Steam, but the physicality of it is reassuring.

Go for the instant gratification option.
Which means Steam is out

I can't feel good buying music digitally, but anything to reduce the number of ugly game boxes on my shelf is good. I say steam.

Why are you even asking this question? Dead Space Retail = SecuROM limited activation AIDS. Steam release = no 3rd party anti-consumer DRM.
