I just stepped in to say to all the folks who thought FO3 was boring: How did you not see that coming after the absolute snoozefest that was FO1 and FO2? I never saw the fun of navigating a poorly rendered little man through a field of black screen to find the rope to get down the hatch to find the key to untie my shoe to nail your sister to get some food to...it's like watching Lost in slo-mo with Locke as the sole character, whilst someone repeatedly stabs me in the temple with a spoon. All it needed was a lame-ass ambient soundtrack and I would have killed myself just for some excitement.

Just to stir things up more, what about people who pirate the game because the pirated copy works but the retail version comes crippled with DRM and activation limits that they don't want on their computers?
And don't say "Then you should buy the game, not use your bought version and download a working version", because that's clearly just stupid and only encourages them to make more games with that garbage in them.
For example, I personally had planned to buy Bioshock when it came out, but once I heard about the DRM I just steered clear of it.
Though I never actually pirated it either.
Again, DRM is usually something the publisher asks for, not the developer. Isn't that the case? I have problems with punishing a dev for what the publisher does.
Apart from this, though, if you're savvy enough to download stuff from BitTorrent, you're most likely also savvy enough to find cracks for the legit versions that circumvent the DRM.

Don't know that much about DRM (only play on consoles noways) but from what I have heard about it I don't mind it that much when someone cheats it, I like watching Robin Hood.

Do you have any idea what happens to your money when you pay for a game?
It goes to the publisher?
Bjossi on 21/4/2009 at 23:22
Nope.

From what I understand:- The majority of the money goes to the retailer. The publisher already made their money off of that copy when they sold it as stock to the retailer.
Then the retailer usually inflates the price tag exponentially higher than the amount that they bought it for.

I guess we never considered FO1/2 to be snoozefests then? I can certainly understand that a turn-based stat-heavy RPG is not everyones idea of a great time but some of us quite like them. I thought FO1/2's RPG system was quite fun but it was really the writing that completely sold it for me. FO3 had, in my opinion, terrible writing and bland FPS combat so I had nothing keeping me interested and got bored once I had got my fill of the stunning post-apocalyptic vistas.
So basically they're quite different games so the criteria that make FO3 a snoozefest to some is different to what may make FO1/2 a snoozefest to others.

For me, Fallout 1 is one of the greatest games I ever played, Fallout Tactics is terribly underrated, Fallout 2 is terribly overrated, and Fallout 3 is a fuck of a lot better than it really should be.
That said, I plan to give FO2 another crack later this year. Probably during the summer.

I have one problem with this: bad Quality Assurance
Buggy games are rarely the fault of QA. And even with tons of time for polish a lot of developers simply won't bother trying to fix some issues.

First, I read about you not liking STALKER. That was bad enough, but I can forgive it. Everyone has the occasional bout of bad taste. Now here you are, all bagging on the Fallouts like it's going out of style.
Man...I thought you were cool.
