Hell yeah, not only has Atari rescued this title from limbo (it was a casualty of the Activision-Vivendi merger), but they've also a confirmed a PC version!
It gets better:-
Previously announced as a remake of hit title The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with added content, Atari can today reveal that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contains a brand new full-length campaign.

So much excitement for a console port...
:p
(Loved the original Escape from Butcher Bay - a prime example of a console port done *right*. Now, if only they'd handled DX2 and TDS similarly well...)

Good news for those of you w/capable PC's. I was hoping that this title would eventually see the light of day. I have the XBOX version of the original, as well as the PC 'Director's Cut', and they get played quite frequently, actually.
Best. MovieGame. Ever.
(Oh, and the likeness of Vin Diesel is spot-fucking-on.)

I've only played the Xbox version. One thing I did like was that the player could "break" the game. The pseudo-RPG aspect of this game where you had fetch quests:- NPCs could be killed thus your entirely optional side-quest becomes unsolvable. It was a refreshing change from HL2 where all the NPCs were immortal (and apparently made of metal - they would clank when struck). Not being able to kill the annoying resistance fighters was lame, especially considering that you could kill almost every in HL1.
On related note, The Darkness also had these optional side-quests. Although they were nothing more than padding, since you gained no rewards. Doing an X amount of these quests only unlocked one or more achievements.

I just saw this and I'm really excited, I still haven't played much of the original game, but I can't wait for this to come out.

Off-topic-y but really that small amount of freedom to kill anyone you wanted puts HL1 ahead of HL2, in my mind. It's roleplaying; if you wanted to be the Gordon Freeman that shot everyone, the game respected that.

Except one specific omnipresent bastard.

I for one, who never really got a proper chance to pick up Escape from Butcher Bay, am going to keep an eye on this; hopefully, they won't cock it up. Also, what's this about multiplayer?
Another thing is that, as far as I'm aware, Atari/Infogrames isn't known for using online activation based DRM and limited installs.
