I'm guessing some of you already know this, but the demo's up on xbox Live as of today, and it's ace, if a little short.
It's a small section with some stealth and some drone shootiness, and it feels just right.
Makes all the other dross FPS games released recently feel a bit stupid as well.
Lurky, stabby goodness :D

I love Escape from Butcher Bay with all my heart, and I definitely intend to pick this up, but the demo just isn't very strong, and sadly, as a result, there's already lots of "cancelled my pre-order" topics going around on forums like GameFAQs.
Basically, after a few brief stealth/melee fights, you find a terminal that allows you to take control of "drones," which appear to be autonomous android types. You walk down corridors as the drone and shoot, shoot, shoot anything that moves. If you get your drone killed, you just choose to take control of another one. This is the meat of the demo.
Once you've cleared the place out, you move on as Riddick and tackle a large area filled with about 8 or so guards. You can either do this by sneaking around and shooting out the lights and then picking them off quietly, or you play like Rambo. Afterwards, the demo ends.
First off, there's almost no instruction for those who are new to the game. They flash the controls, and that's it. A lot of the new players on GameFAQs are venting that they tried to take a stealthy route, but couldn't, because they'd run up behind a guard (unaware of the sneak button), and the guard and everyone else in the room would turn around and shoot at them. Clearly, the demo doesn't do enough to tell newbies how to properly sneak, and it is never pointed out that you can shoot out lights to make the rooms dark. I strongly feel that Riddick has great stealth implementation, and it's a shame for some to come away from the demo believing that it's non-existant.
The demo doesn't do Riddick justice. It only shows off some rather plain action bits -- the centerpiece being not horrible, but a little repetitive, and it's just strange that they'd choose that portion of the upcoming game to show off. I feel like Starbreeze has shot itself in the foot here. Let's hope positive reviews do enough damage control to make Riddick a hit this time.

He's a bad excuse for a game publisher.

did I get that right ?
people complain about the game and cancel their preorders because they could not find the stealth button in the demo ?
wow, they certainly convinced me.
I wonder if that would have happened with a pc demo as well....
