It is. Probably Square's finest moment.
No probably. It is. FFIV through Xenogears represent Squares golden age, with VI and CT being the most brightly shining examples of their awesome talents.
Then they switched out whatshisface, the old FF artist who actually had talent and style, for this new guy with his obsession with zippers and emo kids. That marked the beginning of the end.
At least we still have Dragon Quest.

I do not believe you know what you're talking about.

Tetsuya Nomura and that theatrical CGI movie (FF:The Spirits Within) are what killed "the old Square". Nomura is the zipper/belt fetishist character designer that came in with FF7.
Final Fantasy's creative lead from its inception was Sakaguchi. With the failure of the aforementioned film he lost a lot of face and was "demoted to a corner cubicle facing a window". Nomura, a guy who drew fucking pictures for a living, was given creative reins of the series - and the rest is history.

Embarrassingly, I quite like Spirits Within.

It was much better than Dirge of Cerberus... no wait that was that cellphone game.
Anyway it was much better than that FFVII flick they made later. The one where swords split into swords.
